COUPLER REDUX: Taking it back
To have a closer more scale distance between locomotives redrill a new pilothole for the coupler mounting screw. This hole should be 1/64" away from the outside diameter (not center). Some people have asked why I went with a coupler box: i. Cleaner in appearance, the coupler mounted plain jane just looked awkward and left alot of whitespace which isnt there in 1:1. In addition it looked poor to see a screwhead sticking out. This way I had a flush mount. ii. Gave me a more solid coupler mount, not just a screw in a coupler hanging out. ii. More prototypical. Enough said!
