D&RGW K-28 476

These shots are two years apart showing the disappearance of the diamond stack and the relettering of the tender from the Rio Grande to the unstylized Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This is in Silverton at the mid-day stop and the very happy 5 year-old is me. The year is 1978.

      And a year earlier than that photo, I was riding the train as a skinny, dirty, smelly, college age backpacker that flagged the train at Elk Park.
