Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 4800.

"Old Rivets", as most people call her, is in the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, PA. She has been painted black for unknown reasons.

      Thinking of refurbiished steam, I wish we could see one of these taken out, and run again on an excursion!

      If they try to restore one of these, it will easily take a few million bucks. Because they'll have to make the parts instead of buying them cause no one makes them anymore.

      Sounds like the same cost as steam. Were none of them retired, operable? All were broken?

      They were oporatable when they were retired, but they were savaged for other parts. Sad, isn't it.

      The biggest problem is that they were retired operational due to PCB oil in their transformers. New transformers would have to be designed, made and installed. The cost of that most people say is prohibitive. Even so I would love to see one or more of these in operation again. Maybe if I were to win the lottery......
