This depot used to be 12 miles west of here at a Small rural junction named, Barber Junction. The depot was falling down and was no longer used for passenger service, so in 1989, Norfolk Southern moved and donated the depot to the North Carolina Transportation museum in Spencer NC. The depot was restored and repainted to orignial detail. And now serves as the visitors center and train depature point. Most people do not know it but this depot is actually a double sided depot, since there where two lines running through Barber that crossed each other, one line the L line running north to south from Winston Salem to Charlotte NC. And the other, the S line running from east to west from Salisbury NC, to Asheviille NC.

Here is a photo I took of Barber Junction, Present day.

You can see the crossover to the right of the depot, the line running horizontal is the L line and the line running paraelle to the depot is the S line.

Here is another photo of what Barber Junction used to look like when the depot was still there and Southern was king!

I like seeing the train order signal in that photo. The operator ready to hoop up. Can also see a second mast. For the order boards on that crossing line. Neat stuff! I've a train order from Barber in my collection. Should dig it out...
