Beaufort and Morehead FM and Whitcomb

Two rare diesels still running in revenue service when these shots were taken in November of '01. Both belonged to the Beaufort and Morehead (now NC Ports Authority and run by a bunch of losers who are very rude to railfans). I managed to ride in the FM's cab as it switched some boxcars stored on Radio Island across the bridge into Morehead, a distance of less than 1/8 mile. It took an hour.

The Fairbanks Morse H12-44 is now on Display at the North Carolina Transportation museum in Salisbury (Spencer) North Carolina, It was donated by the NC Ports Authority. It sometimes pulls the Excursion around the Museum Grounds. And visitors can get cab rides. I have not rode in it before but I have seen it run.

Just a few weeks ago, in a TrainBoard thread, I'd inquired about those B&M FM units. Am glad this one is safely preserved!

That second engine is a GE 80-Ton. I worked on an 80-ton so I know what I'm talkin' about. The Whitcomb (which is not in this photo) is yellow. If remeber right the 80-ton that works the NC Ports there would be dark blue and I think it came from the USAF and not B&MH.
