Atlas GP35 cabs

The Atlas GP35 cab does not fit properly on the Atlas GP9 shell. There are a few modifications that need to be made to use these cabs. One problem with them is that the openings where they fit onto the shell are slightly wider than the Atlas GP9 shells. The opening in the cabs are 0.459" wide. The slots on the shells that the cab slides down into are 0.412" wide. This is a difference of .047" or .0235" on each side. Another problem is that the cabs don't sit level on the shell and that there is a slight gap at the top in the rear. There is also an extension on the left rear bottom of the cab that needs to be removed to allow the cab to sit down on the walkway/sill. The GP35 cabs are .030" thick. I looked through my parts/scrap box and found that the downspouts from Rix Products buildings are .030" x .030" square. I cut and glued strips of the .030" x .030" material into the openings at the rear of the cab in a horseshoe shape. I also glued strips into the sides on the front openings of the cab. I used Testors Model Cement to glue the strips into place. I clipped off the bottom left extensions and filed them smooth. I had to file the side strips to fit because they made the cab slightly narrower than the shell. I worked a little at a time on each side using a medium grit sanding stick. The cabs still did not sit quite level so I took a piece of the .030" x .030x" stock and cut it to fit into the slots on top of the shell at the rear of the cab and under the windhield at the front of the cab. Then the cabs sat right at the rear but were slightly too high in the front. I took a small flat jeweler's file and used the edge to file the stock in the front slot down slightly and also filed a little from the bottom of the windshield opening until the cabs sat level. The modified cab is on the left.
