Overview of spar pole, loading area, and yarding donkey to the right. At this point, we had gotten ahead of the loaders and were taking five. Yay, choker setters!

Remains of trestle near site of former town of Keasey, Oregon. We almost missed this one, as I was trying to find Keasey and wasn't sure I had seen it. I noticed a waterfall and on the way back along the highway my wife looked over her shoulder and said, hey, there's a trestle there, too.

Module plan for FreemoN module of Keasey, Oregon, circa 1940s. Scale is 1.5" per grid square. Overall dimensions are 18" x 4 feet. Track plan is slightly simplified from prototype and compressed to fit module. Turntable at prototype scene was originally from Wishram and, when no longer needed at Keasey, was shipped to Albany, Oregon, where it exists today. Mill is down line to the left of this view. Logging areas to the right. Eastside Logging operation logs come in from top of this view. Keasey was a forward camp of the Oregon-American Lumber Co. Near this site there are still some trestle bents to be seen even today. The town site appears to be under private ownership. The site is overgrown, and none of the historic building appear to be extant.

This is a scheme to make one of the Oregon-American Lumber Company's 2-8-2 locomotives from a 2-8-0 in N scale. These are substantially smaller Mikados than the one represented by the Kato USRA 2-8-2. (Scanned and posted here with permission from creator, A Proud SD&AE Modeler.)

Pomeroy Steam Logging Weekend: This much smaller donkey was being used as the loader, operating the heel boom loader attached to the spar tree. In the foreground is a belt-driven saw that was used to knock pieces of wood to length for use as fuel in this smaller donkey.

Pomeroy Steam Logging Weekend: Here is the saw in operation. They placed this set-up within a very nice little skid-sled. The gentleman on the right was busy gathering wood for fuel for the donkey behind him.

Pomeroy Steam Logging Weekend: The heel-boom loader and one of the classic log trucks that they were loading. In the highball days of steam this would have been more likely a set of disconnects or a skeleton car and instead of a road this would be rails. Also, there would be no hard hats. Safety considerations must prevail and I am glad they do. Lots of guys were killed in the woods in accidents that could have been prevented with modern safety equipment and practices. The color on these is blown-out, and that's my fault. My wife had the digital camera, so I grabbed my old Spotmatic and whatever film was in it. It turned out I had Velvia 100 slide film. I thought it was 100 speed B/W film. I had these cross-processed (E-6 in C-41 chemistry) to get prints and found after the fact that this is not the ideal slide film for this kind of thing. Oh well, the blown-out colors makes these look like I shot them in 1971, not 2011.
