This album features ongoing pictures from my home layout, which represents a primarily SP route in California in the mid-1950's. It's 18x8 feet. All locomotives are DCC/sound-equipped.

SP SD7 5308 - modified Proto 2000. This was the original EMD SD7 demonstrator, re-shopped and sold to SP. It's the only SP SD7 to have a winterization hatch and it kept its original horns, which were unique to SP SD7's. It is, indeed, the daddy of all subsequent EMD SD's.

A line-up of six of my ten SP SD7's, in three different liveries - Tiger-Stripe, Black Widow, and a prototypical "in-between" one as seen on 5318 on the left. All have a Loksound 3.5 installed, and a custom sound download which accurately captures the early EMD "transition" sound.

SP Baldwin AS616 5231. I was fortunate enough to buy this from Robert Smaus, who added prototypical dynamic brake grids and other details to the original Stewart model. I just fitted a Loksound 3.5 to it, and it happily growls around the layout. It's a bit long-in-the-tooth in some ways, but I've yet to see a better tiger-stripe SP Baldwin AS616 in HO.

SP Baldwin AS616 5231. I was fortunate enough to buy this from Robert Smaus, who added prototypical dynamic brake grids and other details to the original Stewart model. I just fitted a Loksound 3.5 to it, and it happily growls around the layout. It's a bit long-in-the-tooth in some ways, but I've yet to see a better tiger-stripe SP Baldwin AS616 in HO.

Jordan Spreader & SD7. The Spreader started an a Walthers kit, and has a front cab and blades built from styrene. The rear raised platform is cobbled together from the spares box. It's probably "close enough" to the real thing, but it will be dabbled with further.

"The Smokey" - a feature of SP's Coast Line for many years. It started with a caboose at SLO, and worked eastward to Los Angeles, picking up reefers along the way. The GP9 still needs some work, and Train Masters did indeed occasionally operate on this train.

SP AC12 4275 and 40-car PFE reefer block. This is an Intermountain Cab Forward, and, despite the IM screw-up with the gearing, it runs OK, if rather slowly.

Two ABBA sets of ALCO FA/B road power. These are from Proto 2000 and are partially renumbered. All eight units have Soundtraxx decoders individually installled, and the lights have been replaced with LED's.

SP 5289 & 5288 (AKA Donald & Douglas) - 2 single-tank SP SD7's that were given 15 tons of extra ballast and briefly allocated to San Luis Obispo in 1953 for helper service. They were the only two SP SD7's not to have the large barrel headlights fitted.
