Now the question that I have ; is when are we going to see this Locomotive in N Scale? We already know that Atlas is coming out with the HO version soon.??? Just wondering I stand corrected. Atlas is coming out with the NJ Transit modern Locomotive, not Amtrak new Loco. SO an even more broad question. When might we see this in a model in any scale? Of which for some reason will probably be HO first and Kato if in N Scale
Really I was unaware of that. Who makes it? Geez I didn't realize that was it. Looks different in the real picture; unless it's just me The real one looks like a diesel Engine and Kato came out with a Electric. But I guess that is it. Looking at the pictures side by side.
The ACS-64 (Amtrak Cities Sprinter, 6400 kilowatt) is made by Siemens based on their EuroSprinter and Vectron locomotives. They're built in California and have subassemblies made elsewhere in America so they qualify for Buy American. I think they're pretty darn awesome.
Since NEC is cobbled together, it goes from 12 kV @ 25 Hz AC, to 12.5 kV @ 60 Hz AC, to 25 kV @ 60 Hz AC.
Well, NEC is a mess. Fortunately they're working on upgrading a lot of things. In my most recent issue of Trains they did an article about improvements to their train routing software. Makes it much easier for them to dispatch and make changes on the fly. Once that's fully in place I believe they might work in physical improvements, but as always that requires money and Amtrak is not a funding priority.
Always amazing how Amtrak is used as a political football. Billions flushed down the toilets, elsewhere. Struggles to just get a single billion for our own trains.
