A hatch open at the BNML (burligton northern manitoba limited, yes it still doesn't have the Santa fe part) -CP interchange in Winnipeg Manitoba, summer of 2015
There is a siding that acts as a really long thin yard that ends up being a 2 trâčk yard for the dwindling local (1 SF sd40-2 1 BN sd40-2 1 BNSF gp38-2)
The local has changed quite a bit since (according to fellow club members as i was 12 at this time and didn't know the club existed) since 2012
Deval Tower in July 1984, now gone as a result of an electrical fire several years ago that hastened its demise. Deval stood in northwest suburban Chicago in Des Plaines, IL and guarded a busy three-way junction where the C&NW, Soo and MILW all crossed.
That guy in the foreground sure seems unconcerned. If I were in his shoes, I'd be hustling to some shelter!
I have posted this photo here before, but was reminiscing and I really like the shot. I took it on the evening before we left Portland Union Station for Minneapolis with the 4449 back in 2009. 4449 was to participate in the big steam up in Owosso, Michigan. The 4449 and Milwaukee 261 crews got together for this run, Steve Sandberg and company providing some of their passenger cars, the Milwaukee Super Dome and the Skytop Lounge, along with the crew car that I would occupy. On this night prior to departure, the 4449, a 4-8-4, was utilized as a switch engine, making up the train for the next day's departure. Barely visible in the shot is the moon, slightly above and to the left of the 4449. The trip turned out to be one of my most enjoyable adventures.
