This month, we are going to be modeling a controversial subject, graffiti. Same rules as last month, from the First to the Twenty-first, you will weather a car that has a Micro-Trains product on it. Again, we will need a before picture. Here is the prize! View attachment 167550 View attachment 167551 One car, both sides
Any specific car type for this month ? I've picked out some potential victims and looking at prototype references on the web. Where as I had never paid much attention to graffiti before, now I am noticing some things. I am finding it interesting that in photos of the same car at different times you can see the same graffiti or in some cases, it's been patched over or graffitied over with new graffiti.
In progress pics should be in here. Like last month, I will create an official submission thread with a week to go
I'm did my entry this afternoon 12417720_1660407554210066_458902653071610804_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 10644477_1660407610876727_6109406256325366355_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 10599251_1660407590876729_7079481326747506705_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 10419634_1660407580876730_5693084956699754624_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 941072_1660407564210065_6055787163808969604_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 535282_1660407530876735_5974369420840732677_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 10653528_1660407510876737_2128315086311362952_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 5697_1660407540876734_6567940892168532141_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM 10367171_1660407517543403_7874258854296515820_n by Nick Lorusso posted Jan 3, 2016 at 2:48 PM
What if their already covered in graffiti?? Can I weather them and call it good?? Didn't think so, but I HAD to ask! Figure if I weathered these, the die hard MT folks would have a massive fit!! Gotta find a car, my decals and have a go I guess! just need to decide what car to attack now!
Had a little time to kill and I got the car stripped down, lettering worn off, faded it and got a wash coat put on. Are we suppose to continue adding progress pics here, or just get the car done and wait for the actual thread to be posted and just upload the final pics there? I couldn't find the original thread with the rules...
Progress pics are more than welcome in here! I was afraid that I was the ONLY one in this contest. I am going to start weathering a FVM boxcar with Micro-Trains couplers. I hope to have free time tomorrow afternoon.
I'm still on board also and almost finished with my entry "FVM with micro trains couplers" car. I'm going for a patch job with a graffiti from Weathering Solutions. I'm not real big on doing graffiti cars as my modeling era is on the earlier edge of this stuff. I'm on the fence about using decals but I don't think I could paint the detail to such a fine extreme with good results on these mini-beasts. I didn't think to take some in process flicks. If I get in the zone with an attack, I just go..... Craig
This month I got some progress photos. For this project I am using one of my Atlas ACF Centerflow cover hoppers. These are one of my favorite Atlas cars and I have several. None of these are new and all have many scale miles on them running on Ntrak layouts and have held up so well with all the handling. They all have Micro-Trains trucks on them. I jumped the gun and started weathering the project car before getting a before photo so the car in this photo is one of the others but identical other than road number. PCIX87012 by nscalestation posted Jan 10, 2016 at 12:30 PM Here is the earliest in progress shot of PICX 87008. The trucks, roof, etched metal walkway, the ends, and some of the piping underneath have been removed. The blue strips on the body sides got a bit of my Micro-Sol / eraser fading treatment then the body and roof got a coat of Floquil flat finish. Then application of Bragdons weathering powders, then Floquil gloss finish. PCIX87008a by nscalestation posted Jan 10, 2016 at 12:30 PM The decals I used I got on ebay from a seller who has a great selection of graffiti decals. They are water slide decals and making my own decals this way I have found the a gloss finish helps to get a better seal. Also I like to cut water slide decals from the sheet with a small curved scissors in the counter clockwise direction so that the downward blade is on the outside as shown in this photo. Again from the experience of making my own I found that this helped with hiding the edges.
