I am in need of a source for screws to replace the ones I lost trying to assemble Micro-Trains #1017 four wheel passenger trucks. These are the tiny screws that hold the coupler onto the truck. I believe they are 0-90 size. Anyone know of a source?
Craft stores near by? Many train and other hobby shops will have a display assortment of small screws.
You may have a wholesale hardware supply store in your area that stocks all sizes of screws in their fastener department. We have two suppliers on the MS Coast, which is considered a small time market compared to Pittsburgh.
Thanks Joe I will keep that in mind but I would like to find a source of such screws that are made of steel or something magnetic. That would sure be a great help in assembling these couplers. That especially for people like me who have reduced sensation in our hands.
You can try McMaster -Carr for #00-90 screws, the price for 50 steel screws is what you pay for ten brass in a hobby store. The brass and SS are pricey, but still better than the hobby store. http://www.mcmaster.com/#machine-screws/=z62k4h I'm actually surprised that they have a Torx head on such a small screw (which is a good thing, no slippage). The only slotted screws are the brass, but I'm sure that McMaster-Carr sells the T2 hex key for the black coated Torx head steel screws; http://www.mcmaster.com/#93701a005/=z62nfv MSC only goes down to #0-80 for machine screws, but they do have 00-90 taps, but pricey. Fastenal only goes down to #0-80 as well. I hope this helps. Charley.
I have hundreds of steel 00-90 screws from Micro-Trains that I'll never use. Email me at kisatchie50@g mail.com with your mailing address and I'll send you a bunch free. Vincent
When did you get the 00-90 screws from Fastenal? I can't find them on line under "machine screws", a search of their site turned up nothing, and my local store say's they don't carry them. I'm not doubting you, but I wanted some real "steel" screws myself, and I checked them out, but came up empty. Did they special order them for you? Charley.
