It's a plan by Byron Henderson, so it's good. I would try asking him directly about the radius increase. send a PM to member "cuyama".

There's three spurs at the coal (?) mine but where is all that going - the interchange?

are you planning of using sectional track, or flex track?
the later gives you much more options and even allows for easements into and out of curves
in so much as the space you are building in is 6x10 ft
and considering the yard tracks at bottom, along with interchange
devote 1 ft to the bottom leave 5 ft above
then make inner mainline 27" minimum, outer mainline 29.25", and the yard and
interchange curves 34"...that will give you wider curves that 50ft cars will look better on
    or even longer in necessary
    fwiw...
    sincerely--

    Hello Zach and all,

It should be pretty straightforward to add width and length, but be aware that most people find that can't reach farther than 30" over a scenicked layout. So on a 6X10, you may find that the center is out of reach. Also, you'll need aisles on at least three sides for 5X9 as drawn, probably all around for 6X10. And/or you'll need access holes.

6X10 plus aisles demands a pretty big room, and there are probably better things you can do than a rectangle in that much space.

Details of the track plan are found on this page of my site. It should be easy to see where the curve centers are located.

From a radius standpoint, you could increase a bit to perhaps 22" on the inner tracks, then set each additional track 2 1/2" away for clearance. But as those radii increase, you are losing straight track length between the curves as well, so it may be harder to get everything to fit in terms of turnouts for industries and such.

Andy, the way the plan was designed, the yard is imagined to be a connection with unseen trains of the "same" railroad, the interchange being "another" railroad. Also, I assumed that realistically only a few cars can be spotted at the mine -- so that they could be rolled underneath to be loaded, one needs empty space at the end of the tracks. So it may not be as many cars as it at first appears.

I recognize that some folks stuff tracks like that completely full without leaving "room to roll", which is fine for them, but I find it unrealistic.

byron thanks i have the table already buitl and i just wanted to increase the radius up to 22 on the inder main and 24 on the otuer mainline the table will be acessable form all sides when in use and when not in use agaisnt a wall what would i have to sacrifice to do this i want to keep the yard on the bottom and the locomtive storage and the mine the rest im up in the air about thanks for the information and help

2" clearance between concentric curves will likely not be enough at that radius. I'd go 2 1/2" myself, but you can mock it up and see what you think works with your equipment.

Note also that some folks have found that the "push" it takes to overcome friction and inertia and roll a table of that size around creates enough of a jerk to knock over or derail some or all of the equipment each time it is moved. If you have wheels on it now, you can try it and see if it's an issue with equipment sitting on track. The table will be heavier (more massive) as you add scenery, structures, equipment, etc., so it will take a bigger push to get it moving.

i have done that alreayd and so far pushing and pulling on it has not made anything fall off track i have a few peices of flex sitting on it with cars thats how i tested it had no issues with that and okay i will check into that size radius for my equipment what kind of space do i need between tracks well wahts reccomended thanks again.

Here is a not-very-good picture of an old 6X9 HO layout I used to have, just to give you an idea of what it looks like. 24" radius is possible on both tracks, if you want it. All you have to do is put in a straight piece of track in the outside main. Track spacing was 2 1/2"

The primary reason for spacing on curves if that longer cars tend to hang inside of the curves. Passenger cars, auto racks and so forth. If the tracks are not spaced far enough apart, and a long car on the outer curve is hanging inside, any train on the inner curve may be involved in a collision. Byron knows what he's talking about, as he is a well known layout designer. If you have the room, and can do the two & one half inches he suggests, I'd hope you'll consider that spacing.

okay ill add a short striaght into the outter mainline to get the farther track spacing for the cars to not collide with each other thanks alot guys i will start laying track if the mainl man is on time within the next few days and thats if i can get the track and cork to get along with each other if not ill have to wait few more and have some help but thanks for all the tips on the track spacing and the curve information zach flowe.

The plan above is a modified design of the original 5 x 9 HO scale version that Byron did for me to fit a 4 x 8 area in N scale. The track plan packs a lot of operation into the limited space. When you have one of the premier track planners of today come up with a design based on a John Armstrong concept, you just can't go wrong!
I've made a few alternations to the plan that Byron did for me, mainly to accommodate the use of Kato Unitrack as the original plan calls for the use of Atlas Code 55 track which was scarce at the time, but the overall arrangement remains the same.

Not sure if this aspect is addressed: If layout is free standing, not against a wall, then you should have no problem reaching in to remedy a problem.

they layout when work on or run trians will not be agaisnt a wall it will be on wheels and only stored in a corner when not in use i thought abotu that when i was building the table

If you haven't already considered it, best use wheels which can lock in position. You don't want layout rolling away from you if you're standing on a stool reaching for something, or even undulating/shaking at all while running, as could cause derailments.
