Shortround, Just another example of combo, indoor outdoor layout. http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=37&image_id=1321 Here is train on the viaduct out of Mick's layout shed. http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=37&image_id=1334 A view of one of his stations inside the shed. http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=37&image_id=1325 And a view of his planned layout with three stations. Lots of running, no layout room space wasted on mainlines, with lots of detail to built into the inside layout models.
Just to give this a bump. Another example of indoor modeling/outdoor mainlining. As you can see, the station has almost zero selective compression. The platform has a nice easy curve and can handle 8 coaches. http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=37&image_id=2489 If you built in a garage you could do the minimalist Lance Mindheim style switching layout that connects to a long single track mainline of actual scale miles length along your fence line. It could double back on itself and re- enter your garage. Then on an upper deck you could have your yard and loco facility.
Well said, TGB. Small scales work well outdoors - the scenery is already there so you don't have to build it yourself! The Dorking Garden Railway successfully operates an 00 scale 64 foot circuit in England. There are some videos at: https://www.youtube.com/user/Dorkingian (please excuse this self-promotion!). Click on one of the Playlists for the Dorking Garden Railway. Good luck to all aspiring outdoor modellers. BTW, here are a few photos of the line:
Some of us are fans of the Dorking. As an admitted train geek, I do a lot of dorky things. (Puns fully intended.) Nice shot, love the real sunlight.
Another garden railway in 00 scale Here's another British layout not very far from the Dorking. It's called Danes Wood, and I visited it earlier this week, courtesy of owner Ian. The viaduct is impressive. My video:
A lot of concrete used. I hope it never needs modification or worse yet, removal. There would be some serious work involved.
I would say that is on my top 10 list of garden layouts around the world. I'm really jealous you got to go visit with Ian and run trains on his layout, but I am really glad you got to shoot some video! That loco is just massive. Nice model you have there.
Garden railway video There's a new video from the Dorking Garden Railway at: See others at: http://www.youtube.com/user/Dorkingian
Nice video! I'm used to seeing trains that are slightly different on mountain scenes like that, maybe it's time to convince you to get some American intermodal or coal trains. How long is your mainline? You might be able to even run a scale length 150 car train.
My latest Dorking Garden Railway video is called "A North Country Retrospective" and features several British steam locos. It runs for 10 minutes and can be seen here: Hope you enjoy it!
Here in the Dorking Rockies, snow isn't normally a problem, but a recent fall saw this pair of CN F7As carefully exploring the track before the snowplow and flanger had been through.
