One reason for changing to this software is it doesn't have the 'hole' in it which vB had, allowing that junk to sneak in...
Just so you know how invasive this is...when In tried to find TB on FacePlant, I got an immediate kill from Ghostery for a redirect. Seems somehow the TB FB page is hijacked with a FB program. https://apps.ghostery.com/en/apps/facebook_custom_audience was what I tracked it down to be. If I didn't have the software I have, the amount of redirects, hacks, spam would be enormous. FireFox kills some, Ghostery others, SpyWareBlaster what gets by those.
A Facebook Custom Audience is nothing malicious. It's an optional feature anyone, businesses especially, can use to target/attract people to visit their page.
In Their Own Words "A Custom Audience is an ad targeting option that lets advertisers find their existing audiences among people who are on Facebook. You can use the ads create tool or use Power Editor to create a Custom Audience." Data Collected: Anonymous (Browser Information, Date/Time, Demographic Data, Hardware/Software Type, Internet Service Provider, Interaction Data , Page Views ) Pseudonymous (IP Address (EU PII), Location Based Data) Data Sharing: Data is shared with 3rd parties (specifics undisclosed). Data Retention: Undisclosed Bottom line: I trust Ghostery. I will NEVER trust FacePlant. And I won't trust anyone who goes digging for data. Data is shared with third parties. You reject third party cookies, this is the "new" way around that. You ever read up on what FacePlant cookies do on your computer? Unless they changed it, it can be close to keylogging. Sorry. Not for me.
Every single site you visit mines some amount of personal information, many, many of them, sites you casually visit with no fear come close to keystroke logging. At very least noting IP address, time and length of visit, etc, etc. At minimum placing a temporary cookie. Then there are the super cookies, from which there is no protection available- And these are not from malicious sites at all. It's all a part of business marketing today. If anyone wants to be on the 'Net these days, such is simply normal. The only protection is going off the grid. As to Facebook, if you use it, you've agreed to being scrutinized as part of their TOS. If the TOS feels uncomfortable, (folks should read it before completing application), anyone concerned about those requisites should simply not join. This marketing is everywhere in our lives today. Whenever you use a credit or debit card, the grocery store, hardware, video, any place with a rewards card. It's all tracking you. Your bank, the post office. Everybody, everywhere. Inescapable. We all should be cautious, but there is no getting around it.
The TOS keeps changing, and I never agreed to the "new" stuff. FBP, Ghostery, AdBlockPlus....FB is designed solely any more to generate advertising dollars. If it's a bad enough program for Ghostery to block it, it isn't "normal". I even have a program that redirects all their searching to places all over the globe, and they never do find you. Close enough to be "off the grid". I don't use it all the time, as I still am not fully comfortable with understanding how it works. Of course, if you happen to be one of the techies who blindly do what they are told...and give up your Windoze 7 for 10, hang on. They cannot invade you as easily on older systems, hence the big push to new OS....and again, it's all about advertising dollars. ANY time a security program of any kind blocks something, it is time to sit up and take notice. ANY time.
True. But they all are proven to at one time or another issue a false positive. Even the best antiviruses and anti-malwares do. No Windows 10 here. My next computer might be a Mac, or set up to run Linux.
Well, every once in a while..but...I didn't say panic, I said sit up and take notice. Do research, find out what it actually is...which I posted. Anytime I run into something like that I consider invasive, over the top of "normal", I make a note, and don't do that any more. I ran XP until my desktop died a few months ago. Only problems I had were some sites no longer loaded properly. My old Dell LD610 is still set up and ready in case of, with XPP. Only reason I am on W8.1, is we were gifted this thing. I've had to learn all kinds of workarounds and hacks to get done much of what I want accomplished. And some things just can't be done at all. Aggravating.
Start8 was what I did first when I got my "new" laptop with 8. Hate that OS with a passion. Before 8.1, I had a normal desktop, no metro UI, no tiles, hot spots, charms, desktop icon in left side of taskbar, green XP start button, run command, killed off updates, remove MS store, removed SkyDrive and any and all "cloud" functions, loaded FF and disabled IE, loaded OpenOffice, Picassa for pictures, OE Classic for e-mail (you run into the "you must create a MicroSlime account and use live.com for emails"?). FORCED it to do what I want it to. On XP, websites query OS and browser...so load "User Agent Switcher" into FireFox and select what OS and browser you want...and the websites will, in fact, work. There is a hack to make it remember your choice..I can find it for you if you ever use XP again. I have three computers with XP Pro, one 32 bit, 2 64 bit, plus the 2.1TB external hard drive with a Macrium Reflect image.

Yeah......and I refused to go along with the "normal" and do what MicroSlime wanted..and I made a workaround. I have a spare box here, given to me, with Ubuntu on it. If MicroSlime makes it impossible to use XP (and I would not put it past them), I'll use Ubuntu. Bottom line is, just because folks say it's normal, don't just accept it. Fight back. If someone puts more invasive than I want tracking programs on their FB page, there is a note, and I will never, ever visit them there again. Right now there are six trackers blocked on this site alone. Two google, one twitter, one faceplant, all blocked. And all have been from the day I signed up here. Oh...and the big push to put your address book on line..yahoo account, gmail, whatever (even aol)....and the hackers break in...they have your address book. I will NEVER do that...it stays here. I also refuse to do any on-line banking of any sort. I report all spam, and have special processes for phishing spams....they get reported up to the federal level. But there is nothing on any of my boxes with any banking or financial information whatsoever. Opinion. Dave
