July 4th, 1995. The Grand Opening of Steamtown National Park, Scranton, PA. Here is guest locomotive Milwaukee 261 getting ready to haul a trip to Moscow and return, an event repeated many times by several steam locomotives present for the grand opening. Sadly, today, there is no steam operating there.
Seems as though this facility has somehow slowly slipped below the radar. I fear that is not a good sign. Is there any hope for a revived steam engine or two?
There is work being done on the Baldwin 0-6-0 and on a Boston & Maine Pacific. Both the CN 2317 and CP 3254 are down and as far as I know there are no plans to restore them to service. Typical government operation, take care of the employees paychecks, forget the purpose of the place.
