Static Grass Power source?

Ok, So, I've misplaced my power source for my static grass applicator a long time ago. What input/output do I need to make it work again?

 

What grass applicator do you have?

I built one from a Harbor Freight electric fly swatter and a Walmart strainer bowl for about 10 bucks, it works great and runs on a couple of D batteries.

I am using the one that Melissa Cull from the UK made for a number of people several years ago. It says 12vDC 100MA input and 15Kv DC output. I'm not sure what the KV means unless it is the British way of saying volt.

 

NO...15KV is 15,000 Volts, but at very low current. What you need is exactly what you said...12 Volts @ 100 Milliamps input, giving 15,000 Volts output. I have no idea where you would find that, but hopefully you have an electronics hobby in your area that can give advice, direction, whatever. Good Luck.

BTW, 12 Volts DC is available from your train power supply, or 8 D-Cell batteries. !00 Milliamps is a fairly low current draw, so shouldn't wipe out 8 D-Cells too quickly.

 

I've got a whole box full of different wall warts so I ought to be able to find the right one without too much problem. If you see a bright flash in the night skty in the Westerly direction, pay no attention, it is just me lighting up a bit )

 

Hi Loren, Here's the one I use for the static tool I've made from the plans available on the net. I'm pretty sure it is the same type of internal components that Melissa Cull made.

 

You can use any 12 volt DC power supply rated over 100 milliamps. The extra available current will just not be used. 1 amp, 2 amps, 5 amps are all fine.

If you can't find one, look on eBay. Search for 12 vdc power supply. The cheap black ones for $5-8 from China are just fine. Free shipping, and you'll get it faster than you would from most US vendors.

 

Thank you Ben. I have that same power unit around here somewhere. I was thinking of plugging it into my wall outlet, but I'm not ready for the 4th of July quite yet. )

 

Maybe some cop would let you try his taser. Tasered grass ! Maybe a new thing
