Got to try the new camcorder today, and caught this guy while it was raining. And this old NP caboose at the museum in Livinhston, with a wig-wag too! Fun stuff! And nicely preserved caboose, too!
And it is way better than my old one! Here's a grain train that almost knocked me down with the wind of it's passing! Wee! And this new camera go a clear pic of this grain car in motion.
Yeah......those grain trains (coal too) move fast thru here, especially headed east. I had a grain train pass me between Belgrade and Bozeman today (could have been the same one) doing at least 60. Probably see you tomorrow, and for sure in Helena. Tomorrow depends on the weather.
Sounds good. Brought my favorite steamer, #11, with sound to try and play on the BozNtrak Sunday! Got a stack train today, too! Don't see these very often in Glendive....
Thanks for the feedback! No dp unit on the stack, so must've been empties because there was no pusher either.
At the Helena depot, good old NP ten-wheeler MRL ACEs at Helena MRL 109 And that rusty BNSF 5819 again! Bed time.
This is the main floor at the Helena Train Fair. BadlandNPs booth is to the left of the chandelier in the front of the picture under the balcony. This is the model train area.......G scale on the floor in front, MTNTRAK (my club) on the left stage, 2 rail O scale on the right stage
I've heard of a couple of folks who were there. Said they had a good time. But nothing about sales, exhibits, etc.
Can't speak for sales, but an acquaintance had a booth of N scale stuff and sold out by 2:30. There was a lot more N and G scale stuff than past years. There were times I couldn't walk around our layout due to the number of people ......I think the rainy, cold weather chased a lot of people in. so I'd say attendance was up, and there seemed to be more booths than last year. There was an NP,GN and Milw booth, plus Operation Lifesaver was set up near us. I'm sure BadlandNP will have some great video from the 2 shows when he makes it home. Here's a bad shot of him in his booth I took from the Balcony.
I don't believe the popularity of HO has diminished, but it is obvious sizes such as N, G, On30, have grown significantly. Now if only that would be true of the Missoula meet on September. And if only I could get there.
Lots of HO in Helena, but they had no representation in the model area.......N, O (running Milwaukee Road only) and G only. Livingston also had a lot of items for sale in N scale compared to past years.......in fact I spent more in Livingston than in Helena. I usually spend $25 or 30 at the Helena or Missoula shows........I spent about $170 this weekend (2 shows), but I stayed within my budget........I had $200 in the budget. There was a custom painter in Livingston that I bought several cars from, and Lowell Smith was at both shows and bought some SP&S stuff from him. Also bought 3 NP boxcars from Badland.
Finally something in my front yard and I got stuck with a bowling tournament that weekend in Missoula.
Nice shot, Dave! Looks like I am thinking too hard! It was a good time, though sales were a bit slower than last year, heard that from several. Me? I did about average. It is one of the side purposes for me, the primary is to get out of town and do some Railfanning and hanging out with fellow railnuts and spending it with the better looking half! She sure enjoys it, especially when we get to chasing a train.... This is just a shot of my table and the wifes beside me. She geyts together some rail related jewelry, so does a bit of business here, by special permission. And a different angle on the show. And then I saw this unit at Livingston, which is only significant because I may have rewired this at M-K back in 88. And this one at Helena, for the same reason, except that this was done by a crew I led at LRC. Will be uploading some vids to youtube another day. Lotsa fun and good failfanning to y'all!!!
Yup, was the best chance I had to get around and take a pic. Here's a couple of vids from Helena. A BNSF freight that had been sitting in Livingston during the show there on Sat and here leaving Helena Sat evening. And this set of four ACE's going somewhere west. Was neat as three were in number sequence, 4315,14,13 and 03. Will also post a vid of the Ntrak layout once I get it editted and uploaded. As Dave said, there was a constant crowd around it! And I would say that the bunch were good ambassadors for the hobby and N-trak. Will put thatover in N scale thread tho....
Sounds exactly like when I was active. Our layout always had folks around it. Much more so than much of the other displays.
