Just caught this guy leaving for it's trip from Hill City to Keystone, SD back in 2011. Only took me a few years to figure out how to post it!
Also, the bell is REALLY LOUD! Never seem to see much of anything out there about the Black Hills RR's. Lots of narrow gauge, and a lot of both mining and logging trackage.

Don't use the youtube embed tags, you just need the normal link.

What a neat engine, and the train looks pretty full. I hope to get there some day to witness this operation. Some great history in the steam locos there.

As I recall, that is a former Weyerhaeuser Timber Company loco from Washington state.

Jason, thanks for the tip, am still getting the hang of this.

They told me that ridership has been pretty good and enough so that they have staffed the museum and put up an HO display layout and memorabilia in the old depot there. It was a professional operation they have going.

My folks and I rode it, spur of the moment on year.
Lucked out at the time, as we rode behind the 2-6-6-2T unit!
Have a shirt video of it somewhere! Driving by the next day, headed
home, they were running the small 2-6-2T and different cars.
It was a fun, interesting trip.
Would suggest riding if you're in the area and have a couple hours to kill.

It's interesting how they've done the car vestibules. Makes them have a rather interurban trailer appearance.

If I remember right, some of the cars are restored/remodeled interurbans....I knew I should have bought that book!

ARGH. That old 20/20 hindsight. It works every time. :(

Bought the book............You are correct. 5 of the cars were built by the American car company for the Oregon Electric. 2 cars are rebuilds of CB&Q cars, one from a caboose and one from a flatcar. Then there is a drovers caboose.

So, here it is a few (?) years later and I made it back to the Black Hills Central to ride the train! Yay! I have more photos and videos, so I figure to bring back this old thread rather than a new. Then I will try to fix the old video, too. Here's where they get a drink and are hooking up to the train for the trip to Keystone from Hill City.

And then running around the =train at Keystone,

Then after I rode the train, I chased it on it's next trip. Fun! And friendly folk enjoying the ride!

In this one there is a lot of good rod clank going on as she drifts by, tis a wonderful sound as the machinery works away!

    And here she whistles nicely!

Video, from 10 years ago, when my folks and I rode the train.
Was a last minute decision! And a good one at that!!
My video, with several grade crossings encountered.
