Well back at it, another work week about to start for most of us. How did you do this past weekend? I had one of my typical retail weekends, off Friday, full day Saturday, off Sunday. Friday was my modeling day however. I started by heading to Bloomington for some future work related stuff, then took a trip down Route 66 to my not so local hobby shop to look at decoders for a few of my locomotives. It was a good thing I stopped in. For a few months now I have been telling you all about the Tam Valley servo turnout controls. Well my shop is selling a blister pack that includes the singlet board and decoder, the manual push button switch and a servo already mounted to a slick wood bracket complete with a slide switch that allows me to power my Atlas code 55 frogs. Cool! I was amazed at the price of only $25.00 and knowing I had two turnouts on my first module, I went ahead and picked up two packs. After talking DCC and trains for a few hours, I headed home and found that both Jared and Angela were headed out separate ways to do their own things which meant I was alone and had the house to myself. I went straight to the layout and installed my first turn out kit. The first is always takes the longest but now that I have all the bugs worked out, the next one will get installed faster. I was pleased with the end result and look forward to getting the other one installed. Saturday was work and nothing was accomplished. Sunday was a nice day relaxing with family and enjoying a good meal. Overall a nice weekend. So how about you? How did you fare this Holiday weekend? Let us know what you did. I completed my little dockside, with some fading of the black and some numbers, got it back together and it even runs! I put a guy in it and added some glass on the back windows, also a lens: The lettering isn't perfect, but for a 10 dollar practice loco I am going to go with it: This engine is packed full of weight so pulls pretty good for its size, also runs at slow speeds. Spent Sunday performing in Choir for Easter service, visiting with family all afternoon. It usually takes a couple days to recover from the family doings...
With no NASCAR race on this past weekend and dreary weather I went rummaging through some kits that I forgot that I had and came across a box car made by Rib Side Models. It's a Milwaukee Road rib side box car. I have a few of them and decided to put one together. It's a pretty good kit and comes with sprung trucks, metal wheels and McHenry couplers. Graphics are crisp and clean. The car comes un numbered, but decals are supplied and a list of the numbers that would have gone on these cars is in the kit. The car has a flat finish and I should have put some clear gloss on the spot where the car number goes as the decal filn shows. When the cars is weathered, this will be taken care of.
Yeah. No NASCAR. And too many this season on FSN, which I can't watch.! I put the base paint coats on a couple of T-Trak module sky boards.
Could you please post photos of the servo and control installation. That sounds like a great set up for the servos. Eric
The Atlas GP7 is just about done - only the handrails need to be remounted now. The grab irons on the hood ends were a bit of a challenge - mucho cussing involved (Pete Conrad would be proud...)
I got the rest of my track feeder wires installed and soldered. I also cleaned up the ones I previously did so that not so much wire is showing above the table. I am mostly pleased with the result, aside from a few of them, which I am hoping the ballast will help to hide. Next step is to install the bus wire below and then finish the wiring. I also got a few more switch throws installed. For the little that I was around this weekend, I'd consider it a success.
Got the Z2 reinstalled in the tender of my 2-8-0 and tested it. Started drilling pilot holes into the coal load which will be where it gets cut out so the decoder will fit. Had to go to Easter dinner before I finished. My cheap Chinese made passengers arrived in the mail, so I started figuring out how I'm going to extrude clay bench seats as well. Have the extruder already, just have to make a custom die. Sent from the magical mystery box
Hello Eric, Unfortunately I somehow "broke" my railimages account and have not been able to upload images to it in over a year. Fellow staff has tried to help me get it up and going again but no luck. I'll be adding images on this to my Galesburg City Job Facebook page soon and plan on doing an installation video for youtube. Still, I would like to post images on my Railimages so I can start a thread here for those who don't do Facebook or social media.I'll try to post an attachment image here at some point however.
