Thanks Mike and Boxcab! "Lost in time" locations like this are getting so very hard to find in this era. This really is a gem.
Here's 611 eastbound near Ridgecrest, NC in May 1993: It'll be good to se her return to the high iron!
Sometimes things just don't work out. NS's Lehigh Valley unit arrived and found a temporary home deep in the engine terminal under overcast skies. Oh well, maybe next time. :rats:
Fortune smiled and NS's Lehigh Valley Heritage unit arrived back in town yesterday! I must add these photos to my ever-expanding portfolio of Heritage Units In Trailing Positions, but I'm nonetheless very happy to have seen it and in good light. Then CSX came along .....
I can thank Angela for this one. Galesburg RR Days, 2013. We were walking from the depot to her car when the gates went down and the horn started blowing. Angela asks's, you gonna get that? Nah, it's just another BNSF. I think you should get that. Nah it'll be ok. HONEY GO NOW! Yes Maam. She got a steak dinner that night if I remember correctly.
Talk about being in the right place at the right time! That sort of thing never happens when I'm trackside. Russ' INT unit looks like it's fresh out of the box - wow. Nice Heritage shots -- thanks!
I caught the Interstate unit in Roanoke about a week after they had the big photo shoot in Spencer, NC. There were a few more tucked away in the yard at Shaffer's Crossing that I could not get close to so had to settle for a telephoto shot.
I've always liked that scheme on Jersey Central units. Perhaps stemming from my love of Lionel trains?
Me too and I've always loved NS's Virginian heritage unit for the same reason -- kinda looks like a big ol' Lionel FM Trainmaster. Speaking of NS Heritage Units, the Monongahela was in Phoenix, AZ yesterday!
All 55 of CN's Dash 8-40CMs are still in service. BC Rail upgraded their 26 Dash 8-40CMs to Dash 9 specs and 4400 hp. CN still has 62 of their 64 SD60Fs (including the original four that were labeled "SD50AF"). They retired all their SD50Fs (some sold).
