http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluford-Sho...982872?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27f549dbd8 I work for Mopac for 15 years and would really like one of these, but are they really worth $36.00 Thanks Don
The listing is by the MoPac historical society so there is a donation added on to the cost. This is probably a special order item so if you want one you will have to either cough up the $36.00 or do one yourself.
I was hesitant, but bought an ICG and an L&N and love them both. They're nicely done, even though the ones I bought don't really match the prototype. Mike
Buy it! They are great and you will like the quality. However, while Bluford Shops did a great job on these there is one small problem, they need to release more road names!
If you model MP in that era, I would say they are essential to your essence...... What is the minimum you could get a generic cab for? $20? An extra $16 bucks over at least that many years of use is just pennies a day to enjoy it.
Don, There is a well known hobby shop in Maryland that still has some decorated for Mopac in stock. Their price is discounted significantly from the $36.95 retail price. Carter
At that rate; I shutter to think of the cost of a SP Transfer Caboose would be as rare as they are. $45 -$65 range
I see them for less at online dealers, but... like previously mentioned... the ones on that eBay listing are for the historical society. So you might feel good about giving them a little extra on their price, considering it's for them. I just got two of the EJ&E ones, and they look very nice. If I had any MP power, I'd get one of these.
Don,there is a lot of brass details on these cars so I really do think it's worth the price. We have two runs of these M.P.s just this year with more to come.
We will rerun the S.P. very soon for those who missed the first run, maybe with a varied paint scheme.
Trains, you asked if you should buy one of these, and I have an answer. NO !!! You should buy 2,3,or 4 of them !!! I got a pile of 'em in different road names and schemes. I even got some undecs for my Turtle Creek Central !!! The only problem I have with them is I haven't figured out how to disassemble them (gracefully !!!) for painting. So, get a few of 'em. You'll be happy you did, or very mad that you didn't !!!
I love these. They are great and I have bought many of them. The local UP here in town still runs the MoPac caboose and has for years so I've wanted one for a very long time. Great product and well worth the money to me.
To me, just the fact that Bluford Shops has produced this long missing caboose type is worth the money. And it's a very attractive type. (And very well made. Though I have the HO version.)
Great cabooses from a great company. If you don't buy them, Steve will force me to wear my red shoes.
