I recently found an almost - full, largish bottle of Scalecoat "Boxcar Red paint lurking in a box of junk.:headspin:junk. I want to use it to repaint most of my boxcars but I know that this requires some preparation. My research indicates that I need to thin it by about 30% with alcohol ( for airbrushing). Does that sound right? I remember in the past that it's pretty much useless to try and brush this stuff on, so I want to be sure I get it right. Thank you in advance! Bill.
My recommendation is to use Scalecoat thinner. Be sure to select the correct thinner either Scalecoat 1 or II. The 30% sounds correct but I always start at 25% then test spray and increase if necessary.
^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^^^ BUT, I would do a test run be fore applying to any "keeper" car. Paint doesn't always store well and once opened often doesn't behave as good as it should. YMMV ratled
This afternoon I tried using about 30% alcohol as suggested and painted my caboose. I think one coat will be enough. I'm very pleased with the results!
For my Scalecoat II I always use plain old paint thinner. I'm glad the alcohol worked for ya! Cheerio! Bob Gilmore
