My wish list includes an earlier smoke stack (diamond shaped for wood) and the large square headlight for a 4-6-0 in HO.

I will also be looking for an inoperable 4-4-0 model, salvage it's equipment and make it a derelict display.

 

What do you mean an inoperable 4-4-0?

 

One from the local swap or someone's junk box that doesn't work anymore. There are plenty old cheap layout junk out there.

 

Wait, are you saying that I should buy one, or that you want to make a 4-4-0 that burns wood? I will PM you with my email adress, please send me a hand-sketched diagram of the stack and light. Make sure to include the mounting features.

I said "I" should try to find an old 4-4-0 Prairie or similar for the correct smoke stack and head light for a wood burning steam engine. The one I own is a coal fired.

I don't have measurements, some of the reason for finding one, but the smoke stack is held on by a screw down through the middle and the headlight appears to be held on by a screw up from inside the front of the boiler (smoke box). I don't know how they will be held on the yet to be found model.

David, can you see a time when 3D printing will be good enough to print n scale pole line crossarms? I have been looking for prototypical crossarms since getting back into the hobby in 2006. Typical crossarms are 3"x4"x10' long and have 10 insulators; 5 on each side of the pole. Insulators are about 3" in diameter. Every time I look into this I have determined that 3D printing still cannot reliably print detail that small. Here is a drawing I did a few years ago highlighting the relevant dimensions.

@hoyden, the thinnest wall that shapeways can print is 0.3 mm. The cross arms dimensions are too small. A possibility would be to use the new print it anyway feature on shapeways.
