David - yes would always like to see more Shapeways items in HO. BTW, I like your logo, very nice.

Will do. Do you have any favorites in particular?

My wish list includes an earlier smoke stack (diamond shaped for wood) and the large square headlight for a 4-6-0 in HO.

Do you have drawings of locomotives that featured these items?

What do you mean an inoperable 4-4-0?

One from the local swap or someone's junk box that doesn't work anymore. There are plenty old cheap layout junk out there.

Wait, are you saying that I should buy one, or that you want to make a 4-4-0 that burns wood? I will PM you with my email adress, please send me a hand-sketched diagram of the stack and light. Make sure to include the mounting features.

There are several items I would like to see 3D printed in HO scale. But dont really know how to submit info for what I want, I dont have drawings, maybe not any pictures either. I would need to look thru my boxes of photos to see if there are any :)

I said "I" should try to find an old 4-4-0 Prairie or similar for the correct smoke stack and head light for a wood burning steam engine. The one I own is a coal fired.

I don't have measurements, some of the reason for finding one, but the smoke stack is held on by a screw down through the middle and the headlight appears to be held on by a screw up from inside the front of the boiler (smoke box). I don't know how they will be held on the yet to be found model.

Thanks for taking interest. It may take some time before I can get the dimensions. There's troubles in my world right now. I will e-mail you when I can.

David, can you see a time when 3D printing will be good enough to print n scale pole line crossarms? I have been looking for prototypical crossarms since getting back into the hobby in 2006. Typical crossarms are 3"x4"x10' long and have 10 insulators; 5 on each side of the pole. Insulators are about 3" in diameter. Every time I look into this I have determined that 3D printing still cannot reliably print detail that small. Here is a drawing I did a few years ago highlighting the relevant dimensions.

@hoyden, the thinnest wall that shapeways can print is 0.3 mm. The cross arms dimensions are too small. A possibility would be to use the new print it anyway feature on shapeways.

A question before I go much further.
Are the parts able to be glued together or to shells with solvent bases glues, or is it ACC or epoxy? Have no idea what kind of material the stuff is printed with.
Thanks for taking the time to explain to the less educated :)
