I can't remember the story on this one. Was it a DPU or trailing unit, which did not repond to closing a throttle? CSX?
Yeah, from a quick read of the translation, a helper didn't respond, and sat there running away while the rest of the train had full brakes applied. I can't imagine how long it must have been running to do that, maybe it was a remote unit that they couldn't get shut down.
Who said trains can't peel out? I can only imagine what a delightful sound that must have made. SQEEEEEEEEEEELLLLL GGGGGGRrrrIIIIIINDDDD SSSCCCCCRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECCCCCHHHHH AHHHHH MY EARS ARE BLEEEDING
I can't imagine the unit was able to be moved when this was done? The wheels surely were badly grooved?
That's a whole different kind of rail accident. Mind numbing to think about the forces involved and the heat that must have been generated.
Yikes...:startled: Isn't someone here looking for ways to add "clackety-clack" to their layout?:teeth:
Reminds me of that old story about a model railroad display years ago in a department store window during the holidays, when a locomotive got stuck (the display was running all night) and the thing kept turning its wheels, wearing right into the rails. I think the manufacturer even advertised it, as a point of pride. Can't remember the name though
When this event originally passed around on the 'Net, there was a more complete series of photos. What you are seeing here is just damage from one truck of a diesel.
Appears that only one axle traction motor of the far truck was turning, but all three traction motors of near truck were turning....interesting?????
