I don't know if policy here let's me say them. They start with Train...... Sorry. Google hobby shops on Long Island, you should find one. I'm going to order RDC-4, NH in the AM. Joe D
They are RDC-4s, though. Still, you could do a bash and model the Louie RDC-4s, which did have room for about twelve passengers. Either Budd or the M&StL added some windows to the end of the baggage compartment. The cars did lack A/C. Louie used to use them with trailer cars, which Budd stated voided the warranty. Louie eventually sold them to the C&O. The C-C shells will fit the chassis. You could cut down one of the C-C shells to fit the RDC-4 chassis for a shortie Budd car. I did this with a C-C RDC-3 shell. While it looks allright, I was somewhat less than happy with the result. Part of it had to to with my measuring incorrectly. I have since acquired another C-C RDC-3 shell to try it again. If it comes to grief, I do have a couple of C-C RDC-2 shells. You can buy the passenger steps from the Kato parts department. As I have a non-historic railroad, I can pass them off as an oddball from Budd or a rebuild-after-wreck.
"The store where Bobby Bacala got whacked." LOL. Didn't see that episode. Now, do I hear $15 for these in the future????? Joe D
The penultimate episode, entitled "The Blue Comet." The essential scene:
Got mine NH RDC-4 Friday! It runs much slower than my RDC-2 I got a few years ago. No strange noise or anything, though. Joe D
Hello! When I was recently in the US I purchased two new Kato RDC-4 Budd. Now back home in Germany I found out that both of the engines lack the sprue for the roof vents. I never had this with Kato before but the small plastic bag with the detail parts is not complete. The sprue 805123 is not in the bag. The problem is how to contact Kato US because their customer service does not provide email, just a phone number. Does someone have an idea how I can get by the missing parts or how to contact Kato? Help will be very appreciated since the Budd looks pretty nasty without the vents on the roof. Best regards Mathi Joe, has your RDC-4 got complete detail parts?
Oh Thanks a lot! This is the secret email not shown on their hp. They only offer a phone number. I've sent them an email instantly and hope they reply. Thank you again, very helpfull! Best regards Mathi
Don't be surprised if you don't receive an email response. The last time I had a problem (broken detail part on Amtrak F40PH) I never received any response until I received the part in the mail about 10 days later. Mark
Hello Mark! Yesterday I've got an email from Kato, go figure they sometimes anwer to questions, and they will send the missing vents to Germany. What me wonders is there was no word of excuse, no sorry about the failure. I've heard that usually the RDC-4 was only sold together with the RDC-2 and the vents are in the other box. So if a retailer splits the bunch and sells the units solo the blame is not on Kato. Anyway, I hope my probs are solved so far and I thank you alle for your assistance. Best regards Mathi
Hmmm, let's see... Gas to and from Brooklyn and/or Long Island from my location, about $180.00 with no guarantee any will be left by the time I get there. Think I'll sit this one out.
Hi! I just want to let you all know that everthing is fine now! About 3 weeks ago I received the missing vents which Kato sent directly to me in Germany and three days later I' ve got the same sprue again from the dealer in NYC where I bought the RDC's. I would say this a great and remarkable customer service by both companies! Best regards Mathi
