Yep I think you are right, typing out the question made me think that too, its worth doing right, I ll get on it. -James
However, that begs the question, what does it look like. I can see air tanks from the side and there must be some brake rigging. Any body got a GT 8500 handy that they can take a pic of the underside of the fuel tank for me? -James
I don't know if anyone's done a model of the rebuilt version. I also don't know if any of the underside detailing changed with the rebuild, but there are some pictures of the underside of the pre-rebuild Overland brass model here - http://www.brasstrains.com/classic/...rland-UP-8500-Gal-Gas-Turbine-Tender-Custom-2 -Mark
Finally finished hacking up Sherman Hill and Power Car #207 - Now I just need to mix up some yellow paint that's going to match the COLA cars... Cheers, -Mark
Thanks, guys. I finished spraying the yellow, but now I see that some lunatic in the UP paint department decided to add gray trim along the bottom edges. And here I thought I was going to escape without having to do any masking :-( Cheers, -Mark
That's it for the cars and the motive power. Now if I could just get me mitts on a pair of water bottles... Cheers, -Mark
Funny thing about that... Before I started in on the actual models I sprayed a test car and then did a side-by-side comparison with a Kato car. And although it looked like I had a dead-on match, once I'd actually finished and consisted the new cars in with the rest of the train it became clear that I'd pushed the yellow a couple too many ticks towards orange. So yeah, once again color matching remains a complete mystery to me... :-( Cheers, -Mark
I just about there, hopefully I will be ordering a test print next week, if that is good then there you go... I am just finishing off the underside/flag/rooftop tool box details. -James
Hi Mark. James's dad here. I will be spraying the water bottles when James gets them, plus a few other UP projects. Whose paint do you use for the Armor Yellow, or do you mix it yourself? We have great trouble in getting US made paint this side of the "Pond".
I used a trial-and-error mixture of Model Master "Bright Yellow", "Deep Yellow" and "International Orange". Mine ultimately didn't turn out quite right (at least as compared to Kato's cars), but persons less color-challenged than I should be able to find a good match for UP armor yellow in there someplace Cheers, -Mark
Ok, down to the last detail, and um, what is it........ Any body got some good photos of it so I can pick out some detail? -James
No idea what it is, but here are some pics - http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/500/Water_Bottle_Close_-up.JPG http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/pi...07856 at Council Bluffs IA 10-4-08 1024N.JPG http://www.asterhobby.com/CL04_01/94_L6.jpg http://www.barraclou.com/rail/up/upp814_joe_jordan.jpg http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures\25458\100_8637_9-9-07.jpg
