Truly amazed were this thread went. A guy steals 53 horns from the UP and the comments revolve around the reporters lack of railroad knowledge. If this was a graffiti, vandalism or theft from a railroad museum you guys would be screaming to through him in solitary confinement!. ;) As far as the taking off the tracks comment the reporter clearly mid understood something the UP public relations person said.

Or could it be that we the public have tired from too many years of too obvious lack of effort, put in front of us by so-called "reporters", via their incomplete so-called "news" stories? These days folks who read and hear such items want, demand accuracy. We are as a whole, decently intelligent. Yet all too often, we do not get such results. It's just a "story" to media types, all too often bordering on being simply made up, just dressed to sound good. Which is instead more toward being downright insulting. :( Long gone are the days of Cronkite, Huntley/Brinkley, Sevareid, Harvey. And Murrow, who complained bitterly about just this type of stuff taking over news, way back in the 1950s- And for which he was fired. :(

Speaking of diesel horns, someone here in Sugar Land has one mounted under the hood of his pickup truck. Way too loud for a truck air horn. Must have bought it on ebay. I was out for my morning bike ride on the opposite side of a boulevard when he gave it a few blasts. Woke me up, that is for sure.

I thought such horns were actually illegal for on road use, USA?

I thought so too. I could not chase him down on my peddle bike to get his plate numbers or I would have reported him.

There's a company called hornblasters.com that sells kits to put airhorns in cars. They have videos of them driving around acting like morons and scaring people.
