Is it just me, or is it hard to find undecorated locos? Do you guys just buy shells, or do you buy a whole undecorated one, or do you buy a regular one and just repaint it? I am having the hardest time finding what I need.

Right now I want to work on:
    CNW GP7 no dynamic breaks
    CBQ GP7 no dynamic breaks
    ATSF GP7 no dynamic breaks
    CalTrain GP9 dynamic breaks
    SP GP9 dynamic breaks
    CBQ GP9 No dynamic breaks
    CNW GP9 No dynamic breaks
CNW GP9R dynamic breaks, low nose
    BN E8 Chicago Commuter
    BN E8 Silver colors, passenger
    IC E8 Executive train
    Metra F7A
    Metra E8A
    NS F9A/B Executive Train

LOL yes it's hard. But with a good supply of 91% alcohol, it's not much of a factor. All things equal I prefer undecorated, but not a requirement.

Hypothetically, if I made two of each of the above, one to keep and one to sell, how much do custom models like that generally sell for?

It depends on how good it looks, what railroad it is, and where you sell it!

You do know Atlas actually made most of those Geeps?Probably easier these days to find the locos than the decals..Cheaper,too..

I have used undecorated for some projects and just repainted others. I try to find cheap undecorated locos on ebay and hold onto them tell I have a project in mind.

i know atlas made most of them, but I can't find them, and I want some practice in custom painting, being a scale modeler, I take more pleasure in making something myself then buying it!

Yup. Desirability, price, current economics for the potential buyers, etc, etc.

Don't know if this will help you, but FWIW here's an eBay link:

There is a guy in Spokane that does lots of custom painting, most of the locos sell for around $100-125. Most custom painters I know say the market isn't what it once was, aka most people aren't willing to pay top dollar for custom paint anymore.
