Wow, when I first saw Russell's loading, I thought it might be the new tunnels being bored under Grand Central Terminal. Pretty impressive, Russell, as are the other selections. Good choices, Buddy.

From what I read (viva las search engines!), they were built that way in 1937 by the St Louis Car Company. Inside were movable fence stalls and the end doors were for larger animals.
Horse cars were used a lot in transporting race horses around the country. The ones owned by the SP and ATSF were just as at home on the east coast as the PRR an B&O cars were in California.
