I think any kind of layout change is a good way to get re-inspired about trains, whether it's, the scale time period, or locale. It's all trains so it must ok. I was sort of curious why you wouldn't explore HO scale steam on this layout. Small steam switchers are where HO scale gets really fun. Come to think of it diesel critters are fun too. But you can actually fit sound into them in ho. Have you seen Bachmanns new 4-4-0?
True Ken but you never know I may need to switch a rail fanning train passing through lol yeah yeah I did say I am limiting myself to ten locos
We unsterstand and are patient. IMHO - You will have as much locos as your budget will allow - quiet :closedmouth: I thought of myself NOT to go for more than 4 engines...right now I own already 1 - a N&W 4-8-2 mountain K2 (DCC/sound) 2 - a Spectrum 2-8-0 to be altered and repainted 3 - a Roundhouse 2-8-0 build and kitbashed to a N&W Class W2 4 - a brass 0-6-0 to be painted and equiped with sound/DCC and you notice, there the limit ...is... gone - 5 - a Bowser kit 2-8-2 Pennsy L1s still in the box awaitung build up and finally (nooooo ) 6 - a spectrum 4-4-0 recently to get some passenger service.... BUT still there are rumours in my head about some more "must haves" in terms of locos (a 2-6-0 or 4-6-0 ...perhaps a 2-6-6-2 ?!?). Greetings scopewime
High Guys I see a lot here posting that I remember from n scale. I’ve been thinking about making a change myself because of my eyes, but I just don’t have much room. I’ve wanted to buy a small starter set with some track to get a better idea of what’s required for space and I don’t want something that so cheap and riddled with problems that I end up discouraged. Could someone recommend a Passenger set that’s not too expensive just in case I can’t make it work for me in my space?
Johnny, What I'd recommend are the older Blue Box, Athearn passenger cars purchased individually or in sets. You should be able find these floating around at the swapmeets. Bonus, easy to install Kadee #5 knuckle couplers. The heavyweights are of the three axle per truck variety. The Streamliners are interesting and make for a decent passenger train. Downside, Athearn used size compression to shorten these up. Upside, they will run on 18" radius track. Something, you will no doubt be looking into.
DCC Quick plug means that the decoder does not have to have a pig tail attached. Unlike N decoders that generally have to replace the entire board, these are wired to the board for quick change between the DC plug and the decoder. Here's a picture of the quick plug in an Athearn Genesis SD60M: http://www.tcsdcc.com/public_html/C.../HO_Scale/Athearn/Genesis SD60M/SD60M (7).JPG Can't help on the Sound portion yet, but my plan is to use the Soundtrax Tsunami decoders which replaces the entire pc board.
