The first one is in pacific surfliner paint so it does in fact have an Amtrak scheme. The second one is in Amtrak California paint. That's probably why they're going so high. I should plate over my old Walthers cheap superliners that I paid $8 a piece for 12 years ago and sell them on eBay.

Why is all his stuff just painted Brown? I especially like the switcher on the flat...

I like some of the seller's items, particularly the previously mentioned 0-6-0.

I think I might have found another case of the misplaced decimal.
(Never mind, the seller has fixed the error)

Yeah. Pretty much the same hues, over and over. That searchlight caboose on a flat is worth a chuckle. Talk about a high load.

It looks like he's going for a combination of rust & grime, but yeah, it all looks uniform. Still, not a total loss- if anything, these pictures can serve as inspirations to do our own heavy weathering on old,clapped-out equipment and stuff that has been forgotten and is wasting away. It would be cheaper for us in the long run, anyway.

If he would use a finer scale chain, I could buy into the scene a whole lot more. My eyes just keep going back to the chains, those things are HUGE.

It does look like war surplus battleship sized anchor chain.

I noticed that as well- not only that, but they're carelessly draped over the interior load, not holding anything down. In real life, that load is shifting all over inside, causing who knows how much havoc. The chain might work in O or even G, though.....

Good evening, I'm a nubie to this forum. Anyone know how hard it would be to reletter HO scale MTH passenger cars from Santa Fe to NYC? Thanks

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

You've do much better starting a new topic here in the HO Forum, rather than slipping into an unrelated conversation, where it won't get the appropriate attention.

You know, I debated sending him a note - since he does say he "doesn't know anything about HO trains" or something to that effect. In fact, there may be some buyers for this stuff who MIGHT fork over $200 for it. I guess he is figuring $10 or so per piece? Maybe he operates an antique store? Cause that's about the only place I have ever seen charge that much for this sort of thing.

Well considering this seller states that he purchased it at an estate sale, this individual is either paid very little for it and hopes to sell it for an outrageous price, or he paid too much to begin with, so they are attempting to make a few dollars.

Definitely in outer space no matter how you look at it. Seems like a lot of sellers I see on ebay state something to the effect of "I don't know a thing about it" when selling trains. I think it's a CYA thing for them in case something is wrong with it. And you know, maybe they don't - which doesn't preclude them from selling the stuff - but you would think they would at least get this stuff in the ball park.

You would hope so, but that doesn't always seem to be the case. You would think that if they didn't know anything, they would at least look at other sales of these items,to get a better estimate. But, again that isn't always so.
I feel that in this one, they are operating off of the idea that old = $$$$$.

Which always leaves me wondering, and wanting to ask: "If so, then where or how did you come up with that price?"

I took a close look at the stuff, and it's pretty much J-class at best (J= junk). He and that guy who bashes freight cars & puts them on flats needs to get together.
