I can sure relate to such a loss. A few of my RR friends have gone this past year. One just this past September. He'd become a long time friend and what a source for answers. Not many left these days.
I am sorry to hear of Mr. Earl's passing. I did not know him, but today when I was researching a terrible NY Central accident in 1940, I came across the name of the engineer, Jesse Earl. I wonder if it is possible that the two were related? :sad:
