That makes for an interesting request. The F2s were all modified in the 50's to look more like F3s with large angled number boards, no middle portal and added chicken wire on the middle panel. The Maroon and Yellow didn't come out until late '67. By then only nos. 42, 43, 44, 47, 49 remained. 49 had gotten into a accident and as part if it's repairs, lost it's upper headlight and pictures of 42 show no lower headlight. All of these were gone by '70. Assuming they were all painted into the Maroon and Yellow (no. 47 was for sure), you're looking at a 2-3 window of 3 locomotives Kato could do. I'm wondering why the RI units have Steam Generators. The real ones didn't. edit: These has SGs because there are only two roof options with this model; SGs or DBs. Neither is correct so they picked one. Easy enough to fix. Jason
I see !!! I hadn't done any research before my whining (again !!!). I have seen photos of the 49 in maroon after it's "nose job". Since I am in the early to mid '70s, guess I'll have to pass on these. I hope everyone else enjoys them, though !!! Thanks for the info, wcfn !!!
One of the harder things about modeling the late 60's is all the trade-ins of first generation diesels. I try to model '66-'68 but can't seem to part with my BL2s and FTs - both of which were gone by then. If I didn't like the freight cars of the late 60' so much, I'd be modeling '60-'62 for sure. Jason
I know what you mean. I stretch time sometimes, also. As you said, my BL2s will NEVER go away, just like my DL109s. I even have a DL that will be painted for PC's Chicago commuter train. Sometimes you just gotta' make your own history, ya' know ???
Looks very interesting. Wish I could it this first hand. I'm trying to think, have I heard his name somewhere? Right now I do not recall him.
That's Steven Johnson's old Illinois Div. He just tore it down last summer several months after the video was shot. He is in the process of building the new layout. Quite a bit smaller and single deck. Super nice guy! Here is his blog if anyone is interested: The Rock Island: Ottawa Sands in N Scale
Yep, Ver1.0 was also a point to point but with two levels. This layout will only focus on a few towns and the sand operations in Ottawa, IL One cool thing he did was to add this weigh scale for Ottawa Sands. In making it smaller this time he's going to try and focus more on details and operations, things that he learned from ver 1.0
I just heard about them a few months back and forgot till I seen them on eBay yesterday. They do look sharp. I'm glad I have the Atlas versions of these, only they have the Torpedo Tubes on theirs.
These are DCC equipped, I've seen at Internet Hobby stores from 75.00-80.00, ebay of course is a lot more $$ I would be interested in finding out how these are in quality..
From what I've heard, they are very good. Let's check and see what Spookshow has to say about the earlier runs of these. http://www.spookshow.net/loco/bachgp7.html
Oh that's right! I forgot about the KATO F2's I got my pair on order as well! They will go great with my IM F7's, FT's and my LL FA's Can't wait! They will be too old for era, but I think I'll have about enough of the older units I should be able to swap power from time to time, or just run anything Rock Island! Sound like a good plan to me.
