A wild coincidence; I chose the road numbers based on some pictures I had. Only after I had them applied and it was too late to change them did I run across a pair of LifeLike RI E8's on ebay and noticed that they were the same numbers that I used on mine! [IMG]

    Thanks for looking,
you can see more on my blog.

    Thanks guys!

Wuttermelon, right back at you on your E! I've got a couple of E's laid back, one for the R/Y and one for the M/Y w/ the wing for a future project.

I wish I had your patience to apply the handrails and grab irons. They look nice.

Wow, very nice. I rode the train once in 1978 from Rock Island to Chicago and I think the crew out numbered the passengers that day. Thanks for bringing back memories. !

Eric NE5's have landed. They look great, but in the interim I've somehow managed to get embroiled in another project. You first! :)

Excellent job Mr. Coil! What manufacturer's model are you using for the basis of these "hacks"?

Also, Allen and Wuttermelon did great jobs on those E's! Now to get to work on my UP patches...just kidding! Too many projects and so little time right now....sigh. But I did pick up this FT set #96 to go with my F2's for 1947/1948 and onward running!

    Mark, that's no excuse!
I finally got the first steps of scenery going over the weekend and I found a few minutes....LOL !

Yep. Just got mine two days ago. Here are some shots:

Being enlarged, they look a little rough, but nothing a small file wouldn't take of.
A little bit filing, painting and maybe some small screen would make these look nice.

A guy in the Z Scale section was using the plastic Lipton tea bags as screens for his Rio Grande SW9 build and looked great! Just an idea for when you get those installed...

With the way that siding is painted, it actually looks very real. Just like a wood sheathed car which ahs had a couple of weathered paint coats.

    Hi Allen,
Could you tell me what the big center-cab unit is - I've never seen such a beast, and would like to learn a bit more about them. Also, please disregard the previous post - I still haven't figured out how to delete an unwanted reply; need to work on that! Thanks for any info you might have!

    That's a great idea!
I've used some super fine brass mesh from some kind of filter system before.
Someone once said to use the screen from a transmission filter.

    Thanks Ghengis!

Thanks, Allen! It's a tad weird looking, but I like it! Will need to see if anyone has modeled them.

As for as I know, no one in N scale ever made this unit.
KATO made a Japanese prototype that pops up on eBay from time to time. They released it with some US roadnames, but it's cab is centered unlike the C-415.
It might have been produced in Brass at one time?

Probably just as well - after a little research it seems none of the eastern roads owned any of them; more's the pity! I never realized the Rock Island was so popular and had such a wide array of motive power. Too bad I've committed so much money to my C&O, NKP, PRR and WAB rosters. At least my grand-nephew will reap the bounty!

    Thanks again for the info!

Allen The caboose was an ATLAS of set cupola caboose...sanded and scribed. The cuopla was moved forward and the detail added. Of course new windows had to be added.
