I had always thought about doing something like with the troop cars, but have never set aside any time or got up the nerve to do it. Nice job on the car and the Depot
Two big thumbs up man! When I seen this posted, it dawned on me "Hey, I had done one of these". I went down dug it out and snapped a pic. I must say I was proud of this back when I did it 20 some years ago.....siiigh. Had second thoughts about posting it, but here goes, let the slander begin! I guess I need to put another one on my bucket list.
Well, yours has definitely seen some hard, hard use..... The problem with bucket lists is we keep needing bigger and bigger buckets!
I'm really liking these RSM units. I've always thought the RS3 cab and nose with a geep style long hood was a very appealing shape to look at. Guess they are on my bucket list, too.
Beautiful shot of an interesting car. When someone mentions "Economy" baggage cars the first thing that comes to mind is the Espee's cars but the Rock Island also had cars of this design, which, it would appear, was what the Espee based their cars on... and the car being in the blue and white "The Rock" paint scheme makes it even a bit more interesting. http://rr-fallenflags.org/acfx/ri-b4390asw.jpg Not many of the Maintenance of Way cars received this scheme (and the new MofW number series)... here is a link to another shot of RI 595008 and to RI 595010 and 595012 (also former baggage car)... http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=46320 http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=46319 http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3271303
Hey Bendtracker1, Just curious, how did you do the thing that looks like a cooling coil on top of the F2? It looks exactly like pictures and I'm looking to make some for my F7's And just to bump the thread:
Well, it's nothing more than an old IC chip I pulled off a PC board that a friend had laying around. I cut off most of the leads, flattened it out, added a piece of very fine mesh to it and glued it in place. I did this many years ago, wasn't really sure of the location or any specifics as I didn't have a lot of reference material to go by. But at least you recognized what it was suppose to be!
That's the exact same horn I used on the GP40! My only gripe is trying to get the two halves of the horn together. :droll:
Wow, now that's cool. I'm curious - what did you use for the guts? Kato RS-2 or Life-Like? Thanks, -Mark
Yep, took me a few minutes of fiddling with this one. Thought I was going to have it stuck to my fingers a couple of times. Like Ghengis, I've used one of the BLMA horns so far.
I use the BLMA K5 as it is the closest to the Nathan P5 configuration that the Rock Island used on their SD40-2's and various other post-1966 purchases/leases. Lots of them had the P5's in P135R24 configuration and as far as I can tell, all the Rock's SD40-2's had them this way from 1974-shutdown. The Atlas 5 chime looks to be the other common configuration I've seen on GP35/38-2/40 and U25/28/33b's and a couple of the U30C's as well.
The RS2m is a Kato with a few hundredths milled off the sides of the mechanism and some light filing on the inside of the GP9 hood because it is so narrow. The BLMA K5 is also the horn on top of the RS2m.
