Let's see your Rock Island equipment!

Shortly after joining Trainboard I ran across a thread that Jim Wiggen posted about some Rock Island SD40-2's that he finished for a customer. In the ensuing thread several pictures were posted of different Rock Island locomotives.

Lately I've taken a break from the layout so that I could get more of my locomotives chipped.
In the process I've gotten around to finishing a few of mine and thought it might be a good time to start this thread where everyone can post there pictures as well.

Since Jim stated "We don't see enough Rock Island", so I'll start off with a few of mine.

Here is one that Ghengis Kong asked me to post back in Jim's thread, I picked this one up on Ebay.

Nice weathering jobs. I've always thought that one thing makes a model look so much better.

I've always been a fan of the paint scheme on that SD40-2. To me, it was their finest.

Thanks, it doesn't take much either, sometimes even just a good coat of a dulling agent to cut the "SHINE"

It's long been a favorite of my as well. I've always looked at the Maroon and Yellow as "We're struggling", the Red and Yellow as "Here we come!" and the Blue & White as "We're trying...." But the R/Y always had that BOLD look to it.

Is that the AB6 you've been working on lately? Very nice! It looks like the light housing turned out alright.

You know, that scheme fits really nice on those ALCo's, sweet!

Thanks, BT. I do like the way my AB6 turned out (despite my picture, which somehow manages to highlight every single little flaw - cursed camera!).

Re the Alcos, yeah, what can I say? I had 'em and I didn't want to get rid of 'em, and so... Well, that's how they wound up. You're right, though. That paint scheme does seem to work for just about anything :)

Wow, lots of Rock Island guys out there, eh? (He says as the tumbleweeds roll through and the wind moans mournfully).

    Cheers,

Well, not really a RI guy, but...really like the BL2! And I'd go for that as an awesome paint scheme.

I know we have RI folks here. Too many members just lurk, and don't join in to have a little fun. Bummer. Best thing that can happen is to keep poking and prodding. Post more and maybe a few others will do so as well.

I never imagined I'd see an AB6 in N scale. Can you give us a little background on how you created it?

I believe he used the Joe Sindelair HO build guide from "Remember the Rock". Both Mark(spookshow) and Joe did great jobs.

Here are my models all painted by me except for the F2's and GP40. I need to re-do the long hood decals on two of the SD40-2's and I have more Rock Island stuff on the work bench. Sure wish I had my planned El Reno, Oklahoma N-trak layout started! Otherwise I'd have a better photo selection than my display cabinet!

Sorry guys, I'm a Milwaukee Road guy but I do have an Atlas GP7 and GP38-2 in bankruptcy blue, several DVDs and books, and LOTS of bankruptcy blue rolling stock - and 4 cabooses!

I have a real RI blue problem - as a kid visiting grandparents in Sparta WI the now-biketrail CNW track remnants were PACKED with fresh RI blue hoppers when i woke up and looked out the window. I'd never seen that scheme, or cars on those tracks before. Probably CNW bought them at a bankruptcy sale and was storing them (I was 7 so early 80s)

That incident at the grandparents led to an expensive addiction to RI stuff when I'm a MILW lover (those silly "flag" CNW bay window cabeese led to similar problems)

Will post pics this weekend - great thread!

Hey Ghengis, What's that green peeking out behind the Red and Yellow Duce?

Bring it out! Let's see it. Tell Miss Katy there's no need to be shy.

Thanks for adding your pics! :)

It is supposed to be 72-C but the Microscale sheet didnt have the 'white' numbers! I just need to do sharpie/paint the frame and add a M.V. lens with led inserted in the back.

Nice stuff guys! Afraid I don't have anything to show right now. I have had the parts to do Rock Island GP9 #4490 in her post wreck build. Cab forward, she wore blue and white. Long hood back was maroon and yellow. The Rock also had GP40 # 4710 with a similar paint scheme, again after a wreck. Cab forward was blue and white, long hood and back, red and yellow. It almost looked like a Bicentennial unit. Maybe I'll get one of these done after I work on the B&M GP38-2's.

I definitely need to add one of these to my project list - would go great with my Kato U30's. Now I just need to track down a non-db shell...
