I got mine this week and it is a very well done kit.....the detailing of this very distinct caboose is awesome. Will be getting more!
Yes, I think Matthew did marvelous work on these. One caution: the 3-pack I just ordered came with damaged end-railing/ladders. I see that someone also had damage issues with a recent FM print as well. My single, however, arrived in fine shape. I think Shapeways may be having some issues with rough handling in the packing process, particularly with multiple models. So you might want to avoid the three-pack option until we get a better read on their shipping QC. Maybe it's an issue of getting back up to speed after Hurricane Sandy, but I hope this isn't a continuing problem. john C.
Awesome! Thanks! Unfortunately, in my experience, many of these sorts of problems stem from Shapeways' 'one-size-fits-all' packaging procedure. The easiest solution, from our end at least, is simply to make the parts more robust (or to include extras in case they break during transit). We'll release an update soon to address the ladder issue...
I ambuilding 3 Eastern cabooses. As would have it...this thread appears. Not a printed kit, but built from a MT caboose. Scrattched a new cupola and relocatedit in the center, added new windows and grabs all around and the truss rods. Markers are MT stacks cut and sanded....
Nice work, Marty! The MT wood caboose happens to be almost exactly the right overall dimensions for the NKP 1000 series. I thought about doing this kind of "scratchbash" but I needed about a dozen of these for my layout, so that's what pushed me toward the print option. But your caboose looks terrific! John C.
