I just got done transferring pictures off the Camera and the Baby is asleep, so we can start early.

Here is the first of 4 from about 80 I took of 844 today. Work and Child conspired to keep me from chasing her the whole way from Sparks or even Truckee, but I managed, after leaving "for an important errand" to catch her just northeast of Auburn. I parked with about a minute to spare.

Thank you UP steam live updates.

What does everyone else have for this weekend?

Looks like she was just coasting along.

If only there was some main line steam activity within a few hundred miles of my location. Oh well.

She was still heading down grade, so she pretty much was.

Interesting that 844 is towing two diesels. I can understand one diesel to supply HEP, but why two? The FEF Class is hardly a Weak Sister that needs the assistance of 8000+ HP for the grades in northern California. 844 has more horsepower than either one of those growlers...gimme a break.

She had 3 diesels and 13000 horses trailing her. Hep is supplied by a trailing car. It's a long train and donner is cruel, but part of it is that at least one of those is there for the display (I assume)

The part of me that hates the Borg depite their steam program says it's because no flatlander nebraska steam engine can handle SP territory.

This car has not moved in a while.

Here is one of the UP's HEP cars that they have been using lately.

I did say that, it is election season after all and I'm just being partisan. Everything SP is better than everything UP and all that. :D

Speaking of, seeing 844 makes me miss 4449, but also makes me miss ATSF 3751.

I didn't upload my photo of the hep car, so I don't know if it's the same one on this train. That is what it looked like though.

    AAAAANYWAY.
It's true I have very few nice things to say about Roseville California. The only draw is the Railroad and lets face it a monsterous suburban railyard is sometimes not the best scenery to shoot trains from.

Having said that, there's no reason to avoid taking the easy shot. And here's 844 strolling on through. To her left is the wye leg to the Valley sub and all points compass north (SPRR East to Portland) She's coming in off of Donner obviously.

And here's the observation car as it rolls past the engine shop.

Those are it for 844 for now. I'm going down to the 150th festival on Sunday. So I should have more of her from that.

I'm guessing maybe this is D&H? The roof looks somewhat recent. Is someone going to save it?

No recent steam, but still possibly interesting. A few folks might remember this lokey, from her role in the 1955 movie "Timberjack". A few notables starred, including Sterling Hayden, Chill Wills, Vera Ralston.

Several years ago, Willamette Shay #7, Fort Missoula, Montana:

Another from recently received photos of my late grandfather, the old rail. He was a UP freight conductor.

    LOL!!!! Nope, not D&H

This is Denver, South Park, and Pacific (GPS 39°16’11.52″N / 106° 3’10.18″W) - It's endangered of being lost

Bummer. Looks like the type of structure which could be moved somewhere and saved. If only people were awake...
