I did not know Cat was invloved with EM to wit : " Caterpillar unveiled SD70ACe 1201 at the Minexpo trade show in Las Vegas today, featuring a new Cat-inspired demonstrator scheme. During its trip west, the unit was transported under a blue tarp. " does that mean they hauled it there instead of driving it there ? Way cool paint scheme , but does that make it a better engine ?
Almost as good as the SD70ACe demonstrators that Jerry is running for the ATN...almost, but not quite.
I give it a seven. Maybe an 8. I like the blue and silver EMD just did notmtoo long ago, but that's a lotmof stripesmand banners going all over the place. Itmreminds me of UP1996; a prettymengine, butmonly one, thank you. I don't think a whole consist would anything but garrish. And it really shows who's calling the shots now, and it ain't EMD
I think a 3 pack would look good in coal country where you see a lot of Caterpillar equipment, so 3 CAT painted engines probably wouldn't look out of place.
I think it must have been trucked. Since it was for demo only, it probably have nothing under those hoods to reduce the weight. What do you think?
Yea, would be my guess that it is shell and some trucks . Can't see them laying track to the exhibition hall , though stranger things have occured before in Las Vegas ..... I'll bet .
It's a little too busy for me. It distracts from the lines of the locomotive. It reminds me of the camouflage scheme where you break up the lines of what you're trying to hide with odd shapes and patterns. But then I'm a fan of the old CNR green and yellow scheme. Now that would be a nice heritage paint on a big loco like that one.
Pity John Deere didn't buy EMD.. wonder what that paint job woulda looked like? Or how bout a Microsoft locomotive ? Randy
Read the comments from the photographer, he stated CAT/EMD trucked the unit from the UP yard and it is a fully functional unit. I think it looks like they just replaced the blue with yellow in the normal EMD demo scheme.
You people need to get out into the prototype forums more often. Units are shipped under tarps all the time. Dead in consist with the unit number spraypainted on the tarp. What's most surprising to me is that EMD literall just released a bunch of units in the Blue and Silver demo scheme. So unless the branding has changed within the last week or 2, I suspect this is a one off.
Caterpillar announced it was buying EMD back in June, and the deal was finalized as of August 2nd, through its subsidiary Progress Rail Services Corp
Um...what? Cat announced it was buying emd in I think late fall of 2009 and completed the purchase August 2, 2010. The blue and silver demo units are between weeks and months old.
