For those that don't know what a TARDIS is, it is the vehicle that the Doctor (on Doctor Who) uses. Stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space, is itself a sentient being, but got damaged and looks like a 1960s London police call box. Being a Dr Who fan, I decided I needed one on my layout, and having a Micro Structures etched telephone booth which I wasn't using, I converted it into a TARDIS. (A TARDIS is never anachronistic, since it can move in both space and time) In last season's premiere episode, the quote "Stetsons are cool" was made. Here is the TARDIS in my old west town
Was quick and easy, since I had the phone booth, already. The "POLICE BOX" sign is just 2pt type. I used PollyScale D&H Avon Blue, which seems to be a great match. Daleks, sure. But I now want someone to come out with a set of n-scale figurines, maybe the three "modern" Doctors, Rose, Mickey, Martha, Donna, Amy, Rory (in his centurian outfit, of course), River. Maybe Jack and Gwen, too. And maybe Doctor #11 needs three figures or at least a removable Fez and Stetson
One of the British manufacturers, Hornby I think (am at work at the moment so I can't say for certain), makes an actual N scale police box. We have one that materializes on different modules at shows. I'm on the lookout for N scale daleks.
There are Tardis's and Daleks on the Shapeways site. http://www.shapeways.com/model/411712/n-1-160-tardis.html http://www.shapeways.com/model/247325/28mm-dalek-trooper-sprue.html The Tardis is N scale, but the Dalek is a little big (maybe HO). You should try to get the maker to scale it down and make a gang of them to make it economical. Who ever only runs into just one Dalek, anyway? FS
I think 28mm is close to (if not right on) 1/72 or 1/76 scale, so these would definately be too large. They are neat to see, though...
on mine, I just have a fine wire for the light (after the close up photos, but you can just see it in the old west town photo). I suppose I could use a fine optical cable, and have an SMD LED in side. Not worth it, though, since a TARDIS needs to move, so how can I drop the wires? I would think a similar issue on the Hornby. Besides, the "zsshwoosh" sound is more important than the light :teeth:
This might work: I got a couple from modeltrainsoftware (dot com). They use watch batteries -- CR 2032 (about the size of a US nickel). Not sure how to make it blink, though.
Hmmm..Just a few days ago,I was thinking it would be cool to have a model Tardis..There are actually all kinds of stuff available for the Doctor, you can actually get likenesses of all 11 of them, and I think all of the companions..Never though of getting an N scale one though..
Oh too cool! I grew up watching Dr. Who. I even built a 1/3 scale K-9 that was radio control. Wish I had pictures of it. Tom Baker was and still is my favorite Dr. Glad the series is back.
Button / bumper sticker I saw at a convention: "When It Absolutly Positively Must Be There Yesterday" (think Fed X)
Nice to know someone else is as warped as I am! I got the Hornby one off eBay a while back. Was thinking about making the light blink, but doubt I will as I don't want to call to much attention to it. May have someone near it wearing a long scarf though...
