Has there been any new information released on this Zephyr train?
Kato website has not mentioned it...
The two N scale publications have not mentioned it...

    Is real... or speculation?

It's for real. Kato was talking about it but only had a poster at the National Train Show in Grand Rapids.

It is pretty normal for them to announce something at a show and then you do not hear about it officially for awhile on these bigger announements.

Here is the summary of the Kato announcement on the video at 2:23 into the clip:

They gave us a "very early peek" at the silver zephyr. It will have the Budd cars and the E5.

That's about it...nothing more and it lasted all of 15 seconds. But it does confirm they will deliver an E5 so let the rejoicing begin for CB&Q fans (of which I'm one).

If the GG-1 is any indication of how many releases we could see in the future I will own a lot of E-5s. Funny thing is if this comes to reality you will have way more F3s and E5s than E8s!!

I think it will only be a matter of time before we see a re-release of the CB&Q E8s with the now updated and correct shell (non-DB) that Kato produced for the latest PRR releases. There are a lot of CZs out there that modelers may want to couple onto E units. Of course, there may be an equal number who will take the prototype-be-damned attitude and pull their CZs with a beautiful set of E5's.

    WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did you just say that Kato's PRR shell doesn't have dynamic brakes??????????
Awesome news...because...Kato can also re-release their ATSF warbonnet E8s w/o dynamic brakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Respectfully,

Unfortunately, the PRR shell also has the CB&Q-correct passenger pilot, which I don't believe is correct for the ATSF.

With a small number of E5s in the general pool I am guessing you can find pictures somewhere of them pulling the CZ or at least in the lashup. They ran on the occaisional dinky run so anything is possible.

    RATS!!!...
well...wouldn't be difficult to find some undecs...do the surgery and paint 'em myself...oh well!

I've been looking but so far no dice. I have a lot of CB&Q books, but haven't found a photo of them pulling the CZ. On a related note, the Four Ways West Colorado and Southern book has several photos of the last six E5's pulling freight (ABBBAA). Neat looking lash up, but overall not a pretty sight. :(

The E5 though, did not have the variety of paint schemes applied to it that the GG1 did which gives Kato the opportunity to do multiple releases. I wouldn't give up hope though because Kato are unpredictable when it comes to reruns, I'd like to see more ATSF NW2 road numbers and zebra stripes but it looks like more NW2's ain't gonna happen despite the fact that there are many more road names to do.

There's one on p29 in Zephyrs thru the Rockies. It shows an E5 leading the CZ thru Brookfield, Illinois in 1962.

You did have red nose stripes after the black nose stripes. You had the CB&Q units with names and without (which may have been tied into the nose stripe colors) and then you had the FW&D & C&S units that had their names throughout, plus you had the units that the Q sold off to the FW&D/C&S. I can't image anyone who models the Q would not want more than just one unit. And if they throw in a B unit all the more better.

It is also easy to get a close Exposition Flyer when you factor in the Micro-Trains heavyweight cars.

Fortunately for Kato, the E5 doesn't need multiple paint schemes to be a more popular model than the GG1.

Cool!! Does it happen to show what the trailing unit is? A verified AA or AB E5 lashup would be great. Thanks.
