NS just posted the next loco. All the others are GEVOS. This one is not. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=397325&nseq=0
10 are meant to be GEVOs (still waiting on the Monongahela unit) with the other 10 being ACes to make a total of 20 units.
Yea, like the price tag! I think it will be in the neighborhood of $18K for the full set. Hope the box has some gold lining in it or something... sheesh. Brian
Wish there was some way to track these heritage units "in-the-wild". Would love to see one on the tracks.
At first I was sort of unimpressed with the idea of heritage units, and I haven't been all that excited about Union Pacific's examples. But since Norfolk Southern has been doing them, wow they've grown on me. So far the Southern is my favorite though. Can't wait for the NYC System unit!
Oh..Don't get me started..I live right next to the CP & R&N mainlines, and NS runs on both..It's ruining my life..Every time I hear a train, day or night,I'm running to the window..
I would not look for a NYC until CSX decides to do them. Hopefully all the class 1 roads will do units of the predecessors. CSX would probably be the last to do it. I can hope for a Clinchfield unit. Jeff
http://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nscorp/Media/images/heritage_images.html Yes, totally wait for CSX to do the NYC unit....c'mon people some research wouldn't hurt! 10 are to be GEVOs (we have 9 of them so far, the Monongahela unit is the 10th of that bunch) with 10 being SD70ACes (first of which is the S&A unit). That drawing was done by a fan, NS picked it up and ran with it. Apparently June 1st is the deadline for all 20 to be on the rails, not long to go now....
I have a strange vibe that Kato won't do NS ACes of that there will be a big detail missing or wrong. But oh well happy National Train Day!
Here too, saw a RailPictures photo of NS SD70Ace in NYC (Heritage) livery and I like it. Wish KATO would do one. Cheers,
Saw this news release from NS. Full article at http://www.nscorp.com/nscportal/nscorp/Media/News Releases/2012/ns_heritage_july4.html FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 17, 2012 Norfolk Southern Heritage locomotives to gather in North Carolina for July 4 ˜family portrait” NORFOLK, VA. Norfolk Southern’s Heritage locomotives will gather for a “ family portrait” at the North Carolina Transportation Museum (NCTM) in Spencer, N.C., during the Fourth of July week. All 20 locomotives painted in the color schemes of predecessor railroads will be on display July 3 and 4. To bad I won't be available to take the kids, but that looks like a pretty cool opportunity. Nice photos of the NYC unit, but someone needs to tell the grounds crew at Progess Rail to cut the weeds. Scott
I was on NS's site and I was reading an article on how the NS Exhibit Car wil go on tour, and I noticed in one of the pictures NS already has some heritage unit models in the car.
