I am reading (and viewing) a lot about Donner Pass and other California layouts. Very impressive! But where are the Colorado layouts? Currently working on a Moffat Route study in Z and will post some images soon!

Welcome, Prospector! It's great to have you here.
There's several great 'Grande modelers here.
Riog66 built a fantastic layout feating the Utah desert and Moffat Tunnel east portal.
DRGW12 is building a South Draw/Williams Loop (D&RGW Moffat/WP) layout, looks very promising.
mmyers05 is modeling the Denver & Salt Lake Ry over Rollins Pass (Hell Hill), including 3-d printed 200-class mallets.
Mike Danneman is famous for his Moffat Road, bing published several times in N scale mags.
Brucead is building a model of East Portal and the fanhouses.
Keith models the 'Grande, but no real permanent layout yet.

There's more, but I'll end with a few signature scenes from my HCD layout based on the Tunnel District:

Tunnel 26 and the famous spire in the snow:

Here in Europe swiss modellers made a small layout (~2 meters x 1 meter) showing the Moffat Line assaulting the Rockies until Moffat's Tunnel East portal. Then the line was helixing downwards and returning back to departure (a generic hidden yard that could be Denver). I don't know what that layout became, it has been years since the last time I've heard of. And infortunately I've no link about it, maybe some fellow modellers here?

Enclosed are two photos of the East Portal. This is just a study and does not include the complex ventilation structures. Lots of interesting possibilities here (East Portal), with a wye, Tolland road and South Boulder creek. My goal is to finish the portal for now.

hi, looking forward to your Moffat line modeling. So far, I am focusing on Grande rolling stock... Current issue of model railroader has again an interesting Moffat line layout article.

A little paint goes a long way. Adding letters and numbers to the portal is tricky and I will leave it for another day.

Not sure how much I will build, but the portal was meant as a study for a future layout. If anyone can help me with actual drawings/plans of the Moffat portals and buildings, I would truly welcome those!

The East Portal is coming along slowly. Once the principal tunnel structure is done, I will start planning a suitable layout. The tunnel is made from Evergreen and Plastruct sheets. I borrowed a few Grant N scale windows which was a good Z fit. After several applied paint samples, I chose Tamiya XF55 "Deck Tan" as an old concrete color. Hope to update the Moffat thread at the end of next week. Have a good weekend!
