There's a cab view of 84 Lumber at the tail end of this You Tube video showing a Central Branch train travelling from Babylon to Islip in the early 1990's. Was the 84 Lumber building recently razed?

Thanks, that was a lot of fun! 84 lumber appears at 8:37 in the video. Any other LIRR video trips out there?

Yes, 84 lumber was razed in the recent past c. 7/2011- present. Anyone a better date?

There are several LIRR Cab ride videos on You Tube with narration. Just use "LIRR Cab Ride" in the search. Here's another one I liked, Queen's Village to Hicksville, also from the early 1990's.

Passed by this morning, and the 84 Lumber building and yard is still standing.

Thanks, NDL: Ah, I have been misled! Thus, the business is closed. The turnout and siding are still active for Velvetop box/tank car deliveries.

It looks like the second "84 Lumber" building photo was taken in a direction facing away from the building if you look at the track bumper placement.

Yes John, that is the siding just west of the station on the east side of the crossing. When i took the photos both the siding along the building and this one were empty. They were both also empty when i went by yesterday.

NDLight is correct. I should have seen in the upper left corner the station platforms and the shopping cart to the right (the clue yields Pathmark in the background on the east side of Islip Ave. (Route 111). Besides as the only siding available (the south side siding has been torn out) I should know better. ;-) The photo is a SSE view.

Here are freight photos from that location: http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/islip/islipfreight.htm Examples: http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/is...calciumchholide-Islip03-31-08MikeMcDermet.jpg Chemical (DOWX) Calcium Chloride Tank car view NW 03/31/08

CaCl2 is used in the production of road and paving materials. The offloaded sacks(?) also contain dry materials used in the processes. Anyone know the actual loads in these palletized sacks? These are being transported, perhaps to the Velevetop location on Grant Ave, Islip or another location for processing?

These loads do not appear everyday, based on need and partially seasonal.

Remember Nassau-Suffolk Lumber? They used to have a siding just east of Amityville Station on the north side of the tracks. How about Nassau Brick? What ever happened to them?

Wow! I was afraid the Islip 84 Lumber building was gone. I was born and raised on LI and I do remember that building.

I think Nassau Brick closed around 1981. When I was a kid, all the bricks I ever saw said "Nassau" on them.

Funny coincidence that you brought up Nassau Brick, the brick used to build my house is all from Nassau Brick.
