For those interested starting on April 15 and going until June 15 the California. Zephyr will be rerouting through Wyoming between Denver and Salt Lake City. The scchedule state 8 days running through Wyoming and 8 days through Colorado. This alternating schedule is for track work that will be taking place. So if anyone wants to see territory that is not normally run by passenger service, now is the time to get your tickets.
Great pic. I have taken this route from SLC to DEN in the past and even though the mountains are not there like in Colorado, there is some neat scenery. Also you get a chance to see bison along the tracks too as you get closer to Cheyenne. Most of the old depots are still standing as well. So definately some great things to see.
Dang they keep changing their minds as to what will happen. Now the word is that for the first 8 days there will be a reroute through wyoming. Then starting April 30 train 5 will be held in Denver causing approx 5 hour delay while they wait for the track gang to finish up. Stay tuned, things may change again.
ARRGGGH they changed it again. This is how it shows on the Amtrak webiste now. #5 will be up to three hours late out of Denver due to being held there for the track work. The reroute won't happen unitl May 16.
The reroute is scheduled to start next week. Will go for a week then back to original route for a week then another week through Wyoming.
The delay was a relief for me, as I was on the CZ May 2-3 (eastbound) and May 6-7 (westbound). I was certainly glad to be able see the "usual" route in all its glory!
