I have some SD45's on the way and was wondering if I could add both Ditch lights and an operating beacon using the TCS K1D4 decoder. There are two additional pads available, but would each pad be used for one function? I was thinking of using the ditch light board from Ngineering, but am not sure about the beacon.

    Any suggestions?

John, I think you need two functions for the ditch lights if you want them to alternatively flash. Otherwise, those two functions will do steady ditch lights on one and the beacon on the other. Note the beacon flash can be customised through CV's 118-122.

If you are using the ditch light simulator board from Ngineering, Then only one function is needed to feed their board. The other function (F2) could be used for the beacon.

If you want to save yourself the cost of the Ngineering board, use a 6 function Digitrax decoder. You'll have enough functions for the directional headlights, ditch lights, beacon , and one left over.

What are the preferred LED ditch light bulbs for use with that board?

    Thanks.

I would like to know this too so I could add them to my -9's without the addition of the Ngineering board.

Do you want to use LED's or bulbs. There's a big difference. The Digitrax decoder manual has specs for both.

    LED's, with the TCS decoder.
