At this moment there are 5 viewing HO and 80 viewing N. How did this happen? Did this forum start out as an N scale forum? I feel like an orphan.
Candy, we are like the citizens of Whoville. We are here,we are here, WE ARE HERE!!! There are just more members that are N scalers online.
This question gets asked a lot. N scalers have a complex after being second class citizens and the big magazines like mr and rmc under represent n scalers. So they're cliquey. Like a high school lunch room.
Candy...From this forum, it seems that N scale is becoming very popular, but according to a survey I read recently, there are actually approximately 3 Ho modellers for every N scale modelers. I am very aware that I would have great difficulty modeling in N scale due to aged eyes, and arthritic fingers. Plus I doubt that I could achieve the level of modeling excellence in N scale that I have seen here. Jim
High school lunch room ! ...good analogy. Maybe with can offer cold beer and a girly show on a sign, Come on over ! :tb-biggrin:
I think I'm also the only active member of G-Scale left. Now think of how those poor S-Scale guys feel.
Oh yes....there's also the possibility that HO scalers are reading the N threads as well. I know that I just read all the posts from top to bottom. The only real difference in the scales are the dimensions of the models. Jim
That's a good point. Just because you model one scale, doesn't mean you can't draw influence from another
Yes, Candy ...we are here...but often, not as often (my case). When I made this one of my early "Joins" several years ago, I remember a lot more distribution of interest and activity - including the prototype forums. As time has passed, "N" seems to have proliferated - "N" folks seem more e-oriented, and computer-prolific, so not surprising. I've found work in any scale applicable to my HO interest - but the "Why don't they make..." and numerous equipment-specific posts in "N" don't hold my attention. I don't visit as often as I used to...but have "TB" on RSS alert for subjects and people I "know" here. Guess a lot of us "HO"ers either aren't very prolific or wander, then return at intervals. "N" also seems to be a "collector" passtime - not my interest or economics - I wanna make stuff, and can't afford the "Dream It - Plan It - BUY IT" philosophy that seems the way things are. Lots of admirable, skilled, quality modeling going on here, but a lot instructive, but not applicable to my wishes...so I'm gone and back...irregularly. Your stuff is REALLY Nice...and I've still got a lot to catch up on...Thanks. Bob C.
There are plenty of larger Ho scale forums out there to peek at. There is something pleasant about making friends though, so i always come back here to talk to my train board friends. I feel it worse because i'm doing outdoor ho scale european; talk about a strange niche for forums. I also visit a O scale forum because I like seeing their model pics.
I must admit to not being here too often. I do linger from time to time but I don't contribute unless I'm into some new project. Christmas should change that soon. I'm expecting a few new kits to work on.
I have both scales so I look at both but, with age, I'm gravitating towards HO and thinking about On30. Also I agree that ideas can be gleaned from both scales. Happy Holidays One and All. Richard
I started in HO with my first train set as a kid, back in '73, and I'm back into it because a) I still had the original loco from '73, and b) my eyes ain't gettin' any better! You want balance, Candy? Let's do your suggestion of a party with the girly poster and then play music with subliminal pro-HO messages. While we're at it, we can program them to become our hypno-army to take over the world, muahahahaha... oops, that one got out...:embarrassed2: Everyone please forget about my plans for world domination!
Candy- We have plenty of HO folks aboard. I see the stats when they join. We've been signing them up roughly equal to if not more than N lately. Maybe you need to sound that Thunderbolt siren to get their attention?
Despite the larger HO Forums out there, I've found TB is the only "Friendly" one. I ask basic knowledge questions on other forums, information I don't posses and get treated like an idiot. Here I ask a question about something I don't know, and i get treated with a respectful answer. Despite the low scale numbers, people hang around here because It's a decent forum. That not only speaks well of our members but our administrative staff as well.
Yeah admittadly there are bigger HO forums out there.. I as well as you and several others just get tired of all the ego's on other forums that berate posters for asking a question.
