I was just thinking the other day, about the early days of the internet. Anybody here remember the AOL N Scale forum? I recall it being fairly busy, and was maybe the top place for N people for a while. Anybody here from those days?

I was a regular there. It was a big group and very busy but it slowly died out. I know a few of us are on here.

Yup was there for a few years, then was introduced to TrainBoard and haven't looked back. If I remember it had one of the most cumbersome methods to try and post photos around and I constantly had issues with it. I soon left AOL for another service.

I remember you were still in high school back then. Was it you who bought my atsf GP 50? I went by the name or RamblinRus.

I bought and sold lots of stuff through a web site run by a gentelman who had a layout called the Orange Belt Lines. I do not remember every having a SF GP50 though. It was a fun group while it lasted. I do remember I posted the first review there about the Kato SD40-2 and the Saterday (?) night chat groups were fun also. I definitly remeber you being on there Russell.

Russ, I remember you. I didn't even realize you were on here. I remember the Orange Belt Lines. I think I may have sold you a bunch of stuff Kevin, if that was you. I recall selling about three batches of my older stuff to a guy in WA.

I do remember people mentioning Prodigy, but I think you had to be a member of that back then. I also remember the rail photo news group. Geez, does anybody even use news groups anymore?

Yeah, in a weird way the internet was more fun back then. Sure, it took 10 minutes to upload a photo that was 50k lol But it seemed like there was more of a community feel back then. That was before all the knuckle heads and riffraff started getting onto the internet.

I was also on AOL in the mid 90's. I do remember Russ and Bob (Orange Belt Lines - whatever happened to him?). Too bad I don't remember my screenname! It'll come to me later I'm sure...

Yep. In fact that was where I learned of Trainboard. When I joined I was the 300th member and I thought that was a lot of people. I have no idea how many we have now. I also remember the Atlas forum. I believe it was the original Atlas forum. There was an individual there named Fasjeff or Fastjeff. Always wondered what happened to him.

Hah, awesome! I never posted, but read it all the time. At the time, I used a DecWriter (at a whopping 300 baud!) and a TeleVideo 910 dumb terminal with a modem. Oi, now I feel old...

I was on AOL's N-scale forum "back in the day." I still have my main e-mail address there (for continuity's sake), but other than that I've pretty much moved on.
