this might be a frivolous question to ask but im dying to have an amtrak f59 in california colors. to my surprise i saw them coming out with a HO scale one but how come not in N. even in the old colors athearn produced them but never in n. bahh.
Athearn has a new generation F59PHI with a better drive, they have a bunch of new paint schemes coming out for it...sit tight for a few more months!
I too am holding out that Athearn might see fit to release the F59PHI in Amtrak California paint (both the original and the later revisions as they have done in H0). It is really frustrating when they keep releasing them in fantasy paint schemes I even have the LookModel Brass California Cars to match. I'm sure if I invest in custom painting one, they'll announce it within six weeks. <sigh> Cheers Tim
Seeing as the graphics and paint are all generated by computer, it's sort of asinine that they can't just click "export 55%" and get it over with. I have been eying the Z scale AZL Amtrak California set for a while; my father has a small food business ~60 feet from the mainlines here in Emeryville, CA...... I watch those trains go by all day/week long and I long to run 'em. I used to commute on the Sacramento train. Ever felt the heat and rumble in the seats top-deck right behind that F59? Fun as heck..... (and you get to smell it too, those cars need new weatherstripping LOL)
yea i rode this train almost everyday these past two years. fun times. i have a custom painted f59 in cali colors (no details yet -- if someone wants to buy that off of me) but man i want something predone out of box! my union station product cars are in the works too. gosh i wish i could afford the look model stuff.
haha and still having faith that you guys will get those caltrain commuter sets in soon! comon athearn! i want my preorder!
Well, whoever has the microphone that Athearn is listening to, please ask for the TRE F59PHI's also. They did the cars again, but no locomotive....grrrrr! I would even take an undec at this point...I'm going to paint my F59PH's anyway, might as well do the F59PHI myself as well and get the fade closer to correct. I guess the smart thing to do--since I'm in no big hurry--would be to find one on the clearance rack and just strip it. So nevermind...."Dear Athearn, your fantasy F59PHI's clogging up the works just cost one of your dealers a (standard price) sale!" ;-)
I was just about to go the route of stripping a unit and going into the paint booth to do an Amtrak California unit. But last week Athearn announced new schemes for the F59phi!! Woo hoo! http://www.athearn.com/newsletter/042216/16_N-scale_F59PHI_042216.pdf Paul Z.
Supposedly Athearn got in a lot of trouble when they released the ones they did do the last time... Something along the lines of making them so the star on the side wasn't supposed to be faded... Also with a little work the old shells will fit on the new mechs...
Ha, time flies. I don't even model TRE in N-scale anymore. Sold off a ton of N including the TRE stuff and I am building a model railroad depicting part of the TRE and the DGNO in Z-scale. Nice thing is...the Z AZL locos look and run much better than the original N Athearns, and fairly easy to decoderize.
Wow... No joke should have paid attention to the time stamp on your post! On mobile its small and underneath posts... Ah well __it happens...
